Quote from: Sheilbh on June 30, 2026, 06:20:19 AMYeah fairly pleasant now and this week.

Although long-range forecast says we might be back in the high 30s/around 40 in a couple of weeks. But long-range forecasts are basically as reliable as astrology so who knows.

Short term forecast says we will be in low 30s next week.

At least that humid heatwave will hopefully have acclimatised more of us to a hotter English summer?

You'd think you'd get used to it... you won't

42 years and counting baby hah

But perhaps the UK will get used to a/c

Duque de Bragança

Heatwave coming to Portugal! The Atlantic moderating influence yields. :(

Plus, 36+ C°back next week in Paris.

Grey Fox

Montreal's hitting 30c later today and will stay up for the rest of the week. Humidity is low, so heat index is only 33-34.

"But I didn't vote for him"; they cried.

Gonna be 36 feels like 46 today  :bleeding:

Norgy

A shift in the weather in the north of Europe. After balmy temperatures in the weekend, a thunderstorm and now 16 degrees and cloudy. This is, of course the first week of holidays for most people.

HVC

It's too hot. Stupid global warming.

My East facing windows now have a light covering of chalk wash.  :)

Today's forecast is hot and Smokey thanks to northern forest fires.

crazy canuck

My son just sent me the heat map for Toronto today.  Take care of yourself guys.

It's actually cooler this week, but the smoke makes it more dangerous for those at risk. Was mid 40s with the humidex.

Yeah, air quality of eight, at least where my son's apartment is.  Yikes!

Time to deploy my Physics 'O' level, grade B, against this heatwave?  :D

Someone might have to check my workings, so it takes 375ml of boiling water to make a large mug or small pot of tea, let it cool down to 50C before drinking, then that will impart an extra 4C to the estimated 15 cubic metres of air in my small kitchen?

That cannot be right, I think I'm out by an order of magnitude or two, but if so, then my solution is to put it out onto the garden table to let it cool down out there?

My workings:
Water: 375g density 998kg m3, latent heat capacity 4.19 Kjoules, cooling from 100C to 50C
Air: 15 m3 est.volume , density 1.293kg m3, latent heat capacity 0.993 Kjoules.

NB I've not yet factored in the opening and closing the backdoor will allow X cubic metres of 5C warmer air to enter the kitchen
