Finland reacted almost immediately, special forces boarded the vessel and confiscated it. The russians are lucky they didn't do this around the Baltic States, they'd have sunk the ship and only reluctantly saved the surviving crew.

This is a win. Take it. russsia does cable cutting with a surface vessel, fine, it's ours we'll sell the thing for scrap metal while jailing everyone for decades.

The right action would be to close the Denmark/Sweden access to the Baltic for any ship departing/bound to St Petersburg/Kaliningrad.  Or, at least, require every such ship to undergo "safety/security inspections".

And they'll do it again and again. Like with assassinating dissidents, destroying infrastructure, and spreading propaganda. They're stomping all over European countries' sovereignty. Either Europe fights back, or they end up under the jackboots of Russia and their AfD/Reform/etc. lapdogs.

I'd love to see some proactive influence and sabotage operations against Russia on Russian soil as well, but I suspect European (and even American) capabilities in those areas have atrophied enough that it'll take decades to remedy.

I'd hope that European agencies have been stepping up co-operation with the Ukrainians in preparation for the full US withdrawal of aid and intel.

Yes, one would hope Ukrainian missile/drone deep strikes on strategic targets can continue.

A police officer and a citizen died after an exchange of fire with an "armed and dangerous" person on the outskirts of a hotel near the Décarie highway in Montreal. A shooter was also shot.

"I heard about thirty shots and I heard the bullets pass close," said motorist Jean-François Lemieux, who was on the Décarie highway Monday shortly before noon.

A police officer and a citizen died during an exchange of fire around a hotel on the outskirts of Boulevard Décarie, according to our information. A second policewoman is currently in critical condition.

A suspect was also shot dead by law enforcement. According to our information, the shooter is from Alberta and has been dressed in military-style clothing.

Thousands of Montrealers had shortly before received an alert on their phones warning them of an "armed and dangerous suspect" in the Côte-des-Neiges district.

A huge perimeter had been erected in the area. Passers-by were barricaded in shops and apartments around.
"People are afraid or they are saying to hide," said Karine Plis, who lives very close to the scene.

Hilton Hotel guests and passers-by "terrified, were rushed to our centre, fleeing to save their lives," the MADA community center said on Facebook.

Many videos of the scene are currently circulating on social networks. We see dozens of policemen, some dressed in military style, on the outskirts of the complex.

A portion of Highway 15 has been closed to traffic since 12:25.
St. Joseph's Oratory was also evacuated in the wake of the events. However, there was no confirmation of the presence of shots on Monday at around 2pm.

Recap:
Shooter called 911 and shot the first police officer who arrived on scene from his balcony in the hotel.  Armed with a sniper rifle and ammo belt, wearing cammo clothing.

Video I saw shows cop shooting a civilian as he came around the planter she was taking cover behind. Don't know if he's the civilian that died, but they way he went down makes it look like it.

I have not seen that video and there's confusing report, so I won't speculate.  I'll wait.
