Gotta say I'm surprised how Belarus managed to stay out of this after it quickly became obvious it wasn't going to be a parade to Kyiv.

I'd have guessed Putin would put pressure on Lukashenko to open a second front? At least give an appearance of beligerence to force Ukraine to garrison that border.

There's a whole stretch of Ukrainian - Russian border where there isn't really a front line.
I know the Belarus - Ukraine border is pretty densely forested, swampy, radioactive too.
I don't think Russia would be too keen on expanding the front - it was Ukraine did this with their Kursk offensive.

Belarus getting involved in the war.... Would have been a dangerous game given the people's sympathies would lie with Ukraine and their existing issues with the pro democracy group.
Lukashenko has done a quite skilled job in keeping things quiet for Belarus. A situation that probably suits both Ukraine and Russia.
