AHA!!! I caught Kubrick in a continuity fuckup.  Around 58 min of FMJ, they're riding a Sea King or some large copter,  but the shadow they cast is a small copter, like a Kiowa Scout.

I'm bored enough to check - and the shadow seems correct. I'm no chopper expert but it matches the one they are supposedly riding. Definitely not a Kiowa, note the wheels, not skis.

Quote from: viper37 on November 28, 2025, 12:40:03 PMThe few clips I've seen from Shogun makes it look fantastic.

Basically the same show from the 80s, without Richard Chamberlain and John Rhys-Davies superior acting skills, but with an elevated production value.

Anna Sawai as Lady Mariko seems excellent, like she often has that dignified standing the previous actress did not have.  Like she walks like a women samurai would walk, sort of.  Hard to explain.  Maybe the slight difference in costume does it, and more training.

Obviously, Hiroyuki Sanada as Toranaga is as great as he is in anything he does.  Haven't watched the whole series, so I can't speak for all the actors involved.

I do not understand Japanese, so I can't vouch for their period Japanese, sorry.

Shogun was indeed excellent.  Been awhile since I read the book but seemed pretty close to the source, had good acting, and great production quality.

Thursday murder club - twee, some amusing moments, soso. Breaks my head to think that Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnen are in the same age group. I just can't remember Mirren not being an old lady

Sexist or ageist, you decide.

Sexism :P

Suggests Jos may just not have seen enough Helen Mirren was not an old woman in Long Good Friday (also featuring Brosnan in a small role) or Prime Suspect :o

It's sexist to have James Bond stick in my head but every film featuring Helen Mirren I can recall being from the last decade or two?

Helen is also 8 years older, so not exactly the same gen. If jos watched a movie they were in the year he was born he'd be watching a 40 year old Broderick and a 48 year old Mirren. That obviously goes up with each year. Its easy to see why a older Mirren stick to his mind.
