So damn ironic to be taking this line against the left.

Which line, ironic in what way, and how so?

A very reasonable approach

I believe that is what most people do. Some with more intellectual rigour and some with less, sure, but the process is roughly the same. And that leaves most people indifferent to being called hypocrites.

People are mostly doing their best to resolve conflicts of principle with the tools they have available to navigate life in a complex world. If someone with whom you have fundamental disagreements gets all up in your face and calls you a hypocrite, that's not really going to change much.

Election day! I hope everything goes very badly for Trump.

I believe very few people do that.

I did my part.  :smarty:

Fair enough.

Though if people aren't spending any effort balancing out their different supposed values when they conflict, then they're probably even less concerned about being called hypocrites.

And to my original point, their ability to be hypocritical as they ignore any inherent contradictions is important for them to avoid spending any kind of intellectual effort in recognizing and addressing apparent contradictions.

What elections are those?

The big ones are New Jersey and Virginia governor.  There's also a special election for a redistricting measure in California.  I guess you can throw in the NYC mayoral election now, too, since the Fanta Fuhrer threw his endorsement behind fellow groper Cuomo.

Thanks VM, so together that's a better, broader test of voter sentiment than say the typical UK parliament by-election.

Did my part this evening.  The choice for NJ governor was obvious, of course, but Jersey City mayor proved tougher.  Eventually I realized that the Democrat Reddit hates the most is probably the one I would find most fitting, so I voted for the disgraced ex-governor, the one on my side of the Hudson.
