His first excuse with Canada was fentanyl.  What do you think?
It now threatens trump's security blanket?

Of interest to Minsky and other lawyers, mostly, I guess.

I've been following this for a while. There's really nothing surprising here; Trump appoints incompetents that will lose all of their cases, because no competent lawyer would take those cases because they cannot be won.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

The Minsky Moment

Yeah, every new US Attorney Trump puts in lowers the bar further.  I thought it couldn't get any worse than in New Jersey when he shoved in Alina ("I don't know how to try this case") Habba.  But that is the true genius of Trump - just when you think he's hit rock bottom, he always finds some way to go even lower.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

Are these bozos being promoted from within the ranks or parachuted in from private practice?

It is remarkably true. No matter how bad and disastrous I think he is, he always manages to somehow fail even my bottom basement expectations.

They are Trump's private lawyers.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Habba and Halligan were private lawyers that did work for Trump.
Pirro was a Fox News host
Sigal Chattah (Nevada) was in private practice in Vegas known for challenging COVID-19 restrictions and 2020 election denialism
Bill Essalyi (Cal) actually did serve as an AUSA in the past but was in the state assembly when appointed.

Thanks.

I was on the verge of expressing relief that the ethical resilience of DOJ institutionally had not been compromised, but then I remembered Guiliani and Christie were US attorneys.

They were competent US attorneys; Rudy was overly fond of splashy publicity but neither compromised the ethics of their offices during their tenure.  Those issues came much later for both.

I was thinking more in terms of an internal vetting process that only hires and promotes decent upstanding people.

The Minsky Moment

Something like that used to exist.  Until 2025.

I remember being outraged during the Bush years when it came out that political bias was used in hiring for the DOJ "honors program" - i.e. the program for entry level hiring from law schools.  That was pretty scandalous at the time but like much else seems almost quaint now.  DOJ is now openly purging US attorney offices of professionals who won't obey commands from Trump and Bondi.

I'm more confused that they don't cheer that Democrats withhold SNAP benefits from illegal aliens etc. :P
