ChatGPT CEO has a moment:

Finally found a second use for AI - as someone who is not at all green-fingered it's very helpful on planning the garden.

I do not think this is what Sam Altman meant when he posted a picture of the Death Star to trail the release of GPT5...

The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

To be positive again - this is fantastic journalism by the Guardian, using AI as a tool for journalists and also explaining how they've done it:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2025/sep/28/inside-the-everyday-facebook-networks-where-far-right-ideas-grow

Really good example of a "how to" I think - and given the Guardian is the bit of the UK press that always gets the massive terabytes of data leaks, I think this is something they will explore responsibly.

That Facebook is a far right cess pool I've known for a long time. Huge factor in boomer radicalisation.
Nice to see this getting attention and proof.

And yes. I can think of a few similar mass data crunching uses for AI. Image recognition has a lot of potential in managing traffic flows, making a fairer council tax system, spotting fraud etc...

I believe it's already being used in newsrooms as a first pass for the open source style recognising where a photo is taken and other stuff that investigative desks do - again as a first pass with the investigative reporters also working on it. At least in the broadsheets who have investigative reporters.

I imagine there are far fewer controls on, say, the way Reach are using AI :bleeding:

Edit: Also sorry I linked to the article only. It's in the footnote but the separate article detailing how they used AI was I think a model in this area:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/sep/28/reading-the-post-riot-posts-how-we-traced-far-right-radicalisation-across-51000-facebook-messages

Can't find an example but I've definitely seen on the reach owned local papers site bluntly factual articles by a young looking guy with the title "AI-assisted reporter".
Probably just parsing court records or so.
I'm sure I remember them recruiting for this - posted it on languish I think - salary was minimum wage.

Is "boomer radicalization" really such a problem in the UK?  What do radical boomers do?  SHake their walking canes at poor downtrodden millennials?

Worse, they vote

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

I have honestly never thought that voting was radical. Care to explain why you think that it is?

Voting is not radical, radicalized boomers are voting.
