So the cricket T20 world cup started in the West Indies and United States yesterday.

Delighted to see that the opening match replicated the first ever international sporting fixture - UNited States v Canada.

Easy USA win

Surprised to see the American team are not all Asian guys. There's some corner of the country where cricket is a thing?

I remember seeing there was a baltic cricket tournament some years ago which was basically just first gen immigrants playing each other.

Not that I know of. Everywhere I have been cricket being played it was always Indian and Pakistani immigrants.

So apparently Canada has a really good women's rugby team and YouTube wants me to know this  watched some of the clips, don't really know the sport but they seem to be dominating their opponents :Canuck:

That's one take.
There's also the possibility it's a sign of how far women's rugby still has to go :p

I've not watched any of the games so no idea.

Even if they all suck Canada still sucks the least :D as for skill they look like the know what they're doing... from the point of view from someone who doesn't know anyway

Here, you can now bask in the greatness of the Canadian Women's Rugby team :P

I really admire the crazyness of the smaller women playing that sport. You gotta be really crazy to be a 5'2 120lbs women and decide I'll be a Rugby player and play with 5'10+ 250+lbs women.

So.... The Ryder Cup. Held in the US.
Apparently the crowd were very weird for a golf crowd and actively heckling the European players.
America's national rot is really coming out....

Woops, didn't reply.
I did watch this and he sounds super impressed.  :hmm:

Interesting point on women's and mens being judged with the same rank. That's odd.

My level of rugby knowledge is very basic and I know FA about tactics so don't know if this guys take is right.

England won yesterday it seems but from a men's rugby perspective pretty amazing Canada were in the final.

Yeah, the run came to an end one game too short. Still impressive and something the players should be proud of.

Canada have always been good at women's rugby. They've got into the semis in 6 of the 10 tournaments so far.

Women's rugby is a great sport to watch but is unfortunately not very competitive at an international level with only four countries - England, NZ, France and Canada - at the top table. And England are currently totally dominant due to being the only fully professional team. I think they have won something like 30 games in a row

Norgy

I am sure it can catch on if they demand the same as of beach volleyball players. Some camel toe and something similarly sexist.

The international federation, and the Norwegian federation, of skijumping, which is a very marginal sport nowadays, would not let female athletes compete for years. A campaign was launched, so now there is a womens' skijumping tour.

Women could play handball when I grew up, not football, and they could compete in cross-country skiing.
Cross-country skiing is probably soon finished as a sport, as there are less and less places with snow, except the Arctic. It has always drawn crowds, usually as pissed as football fans.

I watched the NZ and England games that Canada played. It was fun, but I'm a little iffy on the rules and strategy. My (American) football brain kept openly questioning why they did plays the way they did  . I think I'll keep watching.

My conclusion after watching this WC and a couple of youtube video explaining the sport. Rugby Union is poorly broadcasted. It's a zoom out sport and we keep zooming in.
