Quote from: Gups on September 29, 2025, 05:11:22 AMWomen's rugby is a great sport to watch but is unfortunately not very competitive at an international level with only four countries - England, NZ, France and Canada - at the top table. And England are currently totally dominant due to being the only fully professional team. I think they have won something like 30 games in a row

I watched the NZ and England games that Canada played. It was fun, but I'm a little iffy on the rules and strategy. My (American) football brain kept openly questioning why they did plays the way they did  . I think I'll keep watching.

The rules are pretty difficult and constantly changing. The main ones are that you can only throw backwards and kick forwards. If you kick all your players have to be behind the kicker.

My conclusion after watching this WC and a couple of youtube video explaining the sport. Rugby Union is poorly broadcasted. It's a zoom out sport and we keep zooming in.

I watched the TSN broadcast of the games, I thought the commentators for the games did a great job explaining the rules, assuming viewers who were new to the sport.  I know the rules a bit - my youngest son played rugby in highschool - and I found the explanations very helpful.

As for the game itself, that is what dominance looks like. The English side were so much better at every phase of the game.  I was also impressed with the grit of the Canadian side.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

I dont know the difference, but I'm gonna go on faith that you're wrong :P

And thanks Gups. I've got some stuff, but mainly it's understanding why they do what when, the strategy of it all. but that comes with exposure.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
