The Minsky Moment

GOG games can be played on a Steam Deck; it's not 100% but there are various options.  If can run there, it should be possible in any Steam OS environment at least.

GF Now significantly expanded their library to include a few thousand additional games that are "install to play". These include things like the Combat Mission games, Field of Glory, older Paradox games (the newer ones are already on regular GFN), Command, lots of old school FPS games, many, many others.  Catch is that you either have to wait while they install on a virtual machine before playing, or pay extra $ to keep them permanently available in the cloud.

Winlator is also an option for playing GOG games on Android devices, although it means dealing with Android, and its rather hit or miss, and anything AA/AAA made after 2013 or so probably wont run unless you have ridiculously powerful Android hardware.

Quote from: The Minsky Moment on September 12, 2025, 02:48:19 PMGeForce Now updated, using RTX 5080 now for supported games on Ultimate.  $200/year for that tier.

Not a fan of Nvidia but I like the service.

After 5 years, and with my 3080 starting to show its age, and Win10 end of life <_< and EU5 coming, I decided it's time to upgrade. -_- Ryzen 7 7800x3d. I looked at the follow up models, but the performance gain didn't seem worth the extra price. Similarly, going with a 5080 ... 5090 is an extra ca. EUR 1000. Yeah, no. Not yet.

Otherwise increasing SSD space. 500GB and 1TB seemed a lot in 2020, not so much now when not a few games ask for 100+GB (and my normal HDD would be just too slow). -_-

Keep your old card handy. We're (maybe) about to enter an era of lossless generation scaling.

My old PC isn't going anywhere. I still have my PC with the 1080 & 780 in it. :P

Good man.

I'm personnally annoyed because one of my work computer has a 3090 24gb in it and I can't use it to game.  :(

What the hell do you need a 3090 for in a work computer?
To make grilled cheese sandwiches?

Anybody who does 3D modeling or rendering might need one.  Someone working in machine learning or simulation might as well, but those types usually use GPUs on cloud providers.

I feel cheated. In my place of work, our old Lenovos barely manage to process a video.

Quote from: crazy canuck on September 17, 2025, 12:20:09 PMI am also starting to think I should upgrade.  The windows notification that support was ending was my cue too :)

Should have built bigger, like Trump.
I like Amsterdam, it is where Norwegians came to join the Dutch fleet.

A game about the housing market although sounds like we are running low on new ideas for games. LSD for every dev! Now!

And please do not ask me how my Amsterdam trips have gone...

Kinda pleased that Rise of the White Sun (the Chinese Civil War game I mentioned further up) gets some coverage on Rockpapershotgun:

Sin Vega has a strong knack for covering games that look interesting to me, so shouldn't be too surprised. :D
