I think we're at the point that character is irrelevant, if he can be effective in rallying the base, so much the better. The left can't afford to be choosy anymore.

Sure. But I don't think anybody is buying it. I don't think he is rallying people around him. I don't think Democrats and Independents think much of him.

And I kind of get the suspicion he is silicon valley's man and not really a leftist.

Ultimately I will support him if he does prove popular. Just because...well just about anybody is preferable to the Republicans.
