Quote from: crazy canuck on January 29, 2025, 11:54:03 AMOne of the many things we can damn the Democrats with is the Trumpists gave the Dems their playbook, and the Dems are still acting like all of this is a surprise to them.
The voters were pretty clear that they thought Trump or Harris was more of the same.

I mean, Harris did answer honestly to the question.  Even her own supporters were outraged.

There may be a typo/misplaced word in there somewhere.  I don't understand your point.

I presume viper is referring to the question of how Harris was going to be different from Joe Biden.

You don't like the consequences of absolute religious freedom because you now see where it leads.  I told you, you wouldn't listen.  Too late.  Again, deal with it.

Buy a gun while it's still legal for non registered Republicans, you'll at least need it for self defense soon.

Anyway, I will take that as a "yes, I do support ethnic cleansing".
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Voters rejected the Democrat Party at the Presidency, at the Senate and at the House elections.

During the campaign, Harris was asked if she thought Donald Trump was a fascist and she answered "Yes, I think he is".  Obviously, the Republicans were outraged at being called what they were.  But even among the Democrats, many disagreed, along the rank & file, that Kamala Harris should call Trump for what he is.

It's like the Democrats didn't campaign on many issues against the Trumpist agenda, but voters did not want to hear about it.  When told, their answer was "it's all lies.  He was president before, and he did not do any of those things".

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

Ok, but that does not explain why the Dems have been caught so flat footed now.  If anything your observations indicate the Dems should definitely have been better prepared with their own plan on day 1.

I disagree with this take. The Democrats gained ground in the House though. And just barely lost in the other two. Their are standing on a razors edge and great leadership here could set them up for success and scare the Republicans into retreat.

But they aren't. At least not yet. Need to kick the fossils out.

At this point they need to be aggressively pointing out and attacking every single unpopular thing Trump does and tell everybody if they don't like it to support the Democrats. At least. They might even point out how their policies actually were better.

The first camp has been announced. Unsurprisingly, it's Guantanamo.

Btw, say hello to your new history programs:

"Patriotic education" means a presentation of the history of America grounded in:
(i)    an accurate, honest, unifying, inspiring, and ennobling characterization of America's founding and foundational principles;
(ii)   a clear examination of how the United States has admirably grown closer to its noble principles throughout its history;

(iv)   the concept that celebration of America's greatness and history is proper."

Seems pretty much what they attempted to teach us when I was in school. And if you look at Texas standards this is tame. Nowhere does it say to teach that Christianity and Capitalism are good and righteous.

But anyway education is so weird in this country, which each state and locality having so much control, that these kind of federal guidelines are only very vaguely going to have much of an impact. Besides, as I already said, despite the supposed "ENDING OF RADICAL INDOCTRINATION" this is basically what kids are already taught.

We are rescinding visas for foreign students who participated in Gaza protests.

QuoteWASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to combat antisemitism and pledged to deport non-citizen college students and others who took part in pro-Palestinian protests.

A fact sheet on the order promises "immediate action" by the Justice Department to prosecute "terroristic threats, arson, vandalism and violence against American Jews" and marshal all federal resources to combat what it called "the explosion of antisemitism on our campuses and streets" since the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

"To all the resident aliens who joined in the pro-jihadist protests, we put you on notice: come 2025, we will find you, and we will deport you," Trump said in the fact sheet.

"I will also quickly cancel the student visas of all Hamas sympathizers on college campuses, which have been infested with radicalism like never before," the president said, echoing a 2024 campaign promise.

Rights groups and legal scholars said the new measure would violate constitutional free speech rights and would likely draw legal challenges.

"The First Amendment protects everyone in the United States, including foreign citizens studying at American universities," said Carrie DeCell, senior staff attorney at the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University. "Deporting non-citizens on the basis of their political speech would be unconstitutional."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a large Muslim advocacy group, said it would consider challenging the order in court if Trump tried to implement it.

The Hamas attacks and the subsequent Israeli assault on the Palestinian coastal enclave of Gaza led to several months of pro-Palestinian protests that roiled U.S. college campuses. Civil rights groups documented a surge in hate crimes and incidents directed at Jews, Muslims, Arabs and other people of Middle Eastern descent.

The order requires agency and department leaders to provide the White House with recommendations within 60 days on all criminal and civil authorities that could be used to fight antisemitism, according to the fact sheet.

It calls for an inventory and analysis of all court cases involving K-12 schools, colleges and universities and alleged civil rights violations associated with pro-Palestinian campus protests, potentially leading to actions to remove "alien students and staff."

Many pro-Palestinian protesters denied supporting Hamas or engaging in antisemitic acts, saying they were demonstrating against Israel's military assault on Gaza, where health authorities say more than 47,000 people have been killed.

Maya Berry, executive director of the Arab American Institute, a nonpartisan civil rights group, said the group was deeply troubled by the apparent conflation of criticism of Israel with alleged antisemitism. Berry said the order would have a chilling effect on free speech across the U.S.

Yeah. And if there are any further protests this semester, we are going to see schools crack down on them in order to not endanger their federal funding.

So, you know, free speech and all that.

They were warned, they knew what would happen in Trump got reelected.  Who would have thought that a movement that idolizes suicide bombers would be self-destructive?

So I guess the only answer to all upcoming fascist shit simply needs to be: Americans were warned that would happen if Trump got reelected?
