So, ladies, how are you this morning? :)

I thought about writing something longer - but I think I'll just leave it at:

That article is just silly.

YOu can say whatever you will about Trump's anti-Trans EO, but it did not make everyone female.

It is the kind of bullshit that pisses me off. Trump and his crew want you to think everything is a joke and funny.

This shit isn't funny. It isn't cute. American Citizens are going to suffer due to this kind of shit.

It's only day 3. Lots of people suffer under fascism. Maybe more under Christian fascism. You will be angry a lot in the next decade.

Day 3? It's been a decade of this. At least involving this dude.

crazy canuck

This is the first time he's acting on the fundamentalist Christian nationalist agenda.  Last time he was just ranting and raving.

There is real damage being done to your country from day one. It is very different this time.

Exactly.  Last time he had to deal with some level of adult supervision that was sensitive to the norms, and this threw up speedbumps that limited the damage.  This time he's surrounded by sycophants and a cadre with an agenda, neither of which gives a shit about norms.  This seems like the beginning of what was feared when the Project 2025 material came out.  Now I think it's a question of how bad it can get and how much it can be effectively resisted.

One feature of the personnel moves Trump has been making so far (government-wide RTO, freezing hiring, scrapping DEI) is that it will drive people off who aren't going to get with the larger program.  It's a terrible way to reduce headcount if you actually care about having competent civil servants, but it's a great way to do it if you care about having loyal (to your agenda) civil servants.  The people quoted in that article are the most likely to resist the Project 2025 agenda, and now the least likely to still be in government in a few months.

Is it really fundamentalist Christian Nationalist?  I haven't seen a great deal of overt religious stuff.  Mostly I've seen pro-business stuff, border stuff, and the DEI thing.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

You're welcome to apply for a government job and check it out by yourself.

Oh wait, they're freezing hiring almost everywhere.

In other news, NIH got practically defunded this morning.

Freeze in hiring, no more travels allowed, various committed meetings cancelled notably those on vaccines and antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

As the Baron commented just before your post, all of the governmental staffing changes are for a specific purpose - to create a willing (if somewhat incompetent) civil service who will implement the plan.

Plenty of damage was done last time. I am well aware this time it will be far worse.

Reread the post you were responding to when you said it has been happening for the last 10 years.  "Christian Fascism", the term used in the post you responded to has not been happening for the last 10 years.  I am not sure that what is happening now is fascism, but it is certainly Christian Nationalism.

I think you diminish the significance of what is happening in our country right now, by claiming it has been happening for years.

Trump doesn't care about competence and I don't think he is capable of recognizing it, unless you consider competence to be utterly blind loyalty.

Really, America electing Trump as POTUS is not all that different than if America had elected Al Capone to the office back in the day.

From what I'm seeing he's moving in a different direction.  The Christian Nationalists seem to be left in the cold, it is the wealthy plutocrats that on the rise.  Trump isn't surrounding himself with preachers, he is surrounding himself with tech bros.  I don't think Trump cares much about religion one way or another, he wants a civil service devoted to him.

This is how democracy dies, not with a bang, but with ignorance.

Just because you don't like both A and B doesn't mean that A and B are the same thing.  Trump is a nationalist, but he doesn't seem to be a Christian Nationalist.  He allies with them, but they have gotten the short end of the stick so far.  A better case could be made for the mild-mannered speaker of the House.  The other major ones include Marjorie Taylor Greene and Michael Flynn.  Greene has been conspicuously snubbed by Trump, and Flynn doesn't appear to be getting any administration jobs.

Yikes.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.
