Quote from: Neil on November 21, 2024, 03:12:51 PMWait, is Gabbard a worse person than Gaetz?  She always struck me as someone who wasn't malicious, but just wasn't really capable of considering the consequences of her stances.
Russian asset
Is she actually though, or do her contrarian tendencies have her taking positions on foreign policy that align with America's traditional foes?  Is there any evidence, or is it just inference from her shooting her mouth off?  I think she's a pretty questionable pick for DNI, but I haven't seen anything that indicates that she's a Bill Heydon rather than a Ramsay MacDonald.

I try to avoid acknowledging CC on this forum, but yes - there's a lot to suggest she might be compromised by Russia.

Which is why as crazy and degenerate as Matt Gaetz appeared to be, I've heard a lot of knowledgeable people say that Tulsi Gabbard is Trump's worst cabinet pick.

That's the guy we got last time, he's a fucking idiot.

Give him the warm welcome we gave him

Since she ran for the Democratic nomination, everything she says has been aligned with Russian propaganda.  I am not sure how much of an asset she is or how witting or unwitting she is.  This is the DNI we are talking about.

Another highly suspicious thing regarding Gabbard is how so often in Internet comments she's mentioned as the only sane choice for president.  Given how her profile until recently in no way warranted such widespread acknowledgement, I have to assume that it has been one of Russian troll talking points.

I think she might have been a plant even then. That is why she was constantly trying to be this super left wing anti-war candidate. But even for lots of anti-war left wing people something just felt off...

I have noticed that kind of thing among Putin's apologists.  Stop the Democrats from starting WW3.  Fucking cowards.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

That's the Orban and Simon Jenkins talking point as well. Reckless EU/Western aggression needlessly escalating a conflict.

I like how we are both weak and decadent but also aggressive and dangerous.

But then that has been the rhetoric used against the Western Powers since WWI for the most part.

Quote from: The Minsky Moment on November 20, 2024, 11:47:51 PMThe one pick he appears to taking care over is Treasury.  That's because he is just smart enough to understand that a bad pick could cause the markets to turn against him.

Problem is that he is looking for someone who will sign off on indiscriminate tariffs, huge unfunded tax cuts, and also have credibility with the markets.  It does not appear that this rare chimera exists in the wild.

For the same reason I think that he does care somewhat about the Canadian ambassador - he knows that the US exports a lot with Canada and that export and imports tend be fairly balanced. He knows he is going to be causing a lot of waves over trade and wants someone there that can smooth things over when the USMCA comes up for review next year.

I'm very interested in what will happen with the tariffs. If he imposes them as he said in his campaign  then it seems a major recession, perhaps even a depression, is inevitable. But that will alienate all his wealthy allies, so will the tariffs be watered down and mainly imposed on China? I have no idea but am holding my stocks so i guess my subconscious has a theory  ;)

I have heard (hopium?) this would be largely on physical good so even if they're universal the UK should mostly be OK....
Sigh.

Think greatly and bigly.
The average consumer will feel it like Mike Tyson was hit in his, well, whatever it was.

So 200 percent on electric cars from China? Wonder where that idea came from.

"I love tariffs". Sure. It is a nice word to learn when you are 78. Much like dabbing or twerking. Or that there are women who do not really need much more than a few drinks to put out.

At least this is as good as it Gaetz so far.

I know this is not the thread but Simon Jenkins has done a book about architecture in Britain the Guardian have been excerpting. A nice way to warm myself with pure fury one day a week.

The literary news of the week is Josh Brolin's unprompted Dune poetry book
