Just heard Scholz statement. He attacked Lindner personally in very harsh terms. Unusually emotional for him.

Admittedly I don't follow German politics as much as I used to, but he seems a pretty obvious scapegoat (regardless of the blandness of Scholz).

Quote from: Sheilbh on November 06, 2024, 03:41:23 PMSeems high risk though given that I think last polls I saw the FDP might not even have seats after an election?

Or is that wrong (I know there's a new electoral system now would that change things for them)?
Based on recent surveys, the FDP would not be in the next parliament.

There's talk that the straw that broke the camel's back was a leak towards BILD "newspaper" that Lindner was asking for re-elections while they were still discussing it.

Just as a reminder - Trump has now failed to stop the Ukraine war within 24 hour of being elected.

And yes he said he'd end it before even being sworn in.

Oh he'll end it, don't you worry. Just not in a way you'd be please with. On the plus side Moscow will get a nice new, government paid for, trump tower

Was there much progress made at the EU-Nato Summit yesterday?

I'm not going to start a new thread, but I wonder how does NATO prepare for a Trump presidency and any of his successor caesars/mini-mes?

I'd like to see France and the UK begin to quietly plan for a joint European nuclear deterrent, something that a Trump administration won't have a veto over.

Obviously the UK deterrent sub force is toast as it's built on US made and maintained Trident II missiles, but I wonder if in the short term, some of the remaining warheads could be fitted to a current or future stand-off ASM?

Hell, given the UK doesn't have much in the way of current ballistic missile skills, might it be possible to eventually 'splice' into the UK subs some for of modest IRBM build on French Ariana missile technology, though no doubt the sub's launch/control/comms systems are thoroughly dependent on US technology?

Maybe we could eventually include Poland as a partner or basing country, I'd quite like to see a nuclear armed Poland ready to defend itself deep into Belrussian/Russian territory so to speak.  :menace:

Prevent war by building more nukes?
