Halo is pretty darn good.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

I remember my parents drinking rum and coke back in the day in the 1980s.  Not that different.

Rum mixes well with coke.

I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

Rum and coca-cola is a classic. Working for the yankee dollar.

Tamas

Jack Daniels is great with coca-cola. Far better than it is neat.

Josephus

Rum and coke, also known as the Cuba Libre.

And RIP CJ Sansom :(

You know, I watched it after seeing your post and thought it was awful

Now, there are nuggets in there of a good story - I'm sure the books are way better - but the writing was incredibly weak, full of cheap twists and non-twists, and terrible dialogue.

Are there going to be more seasons of this? If anything so Sean Bean also gets to die in it :P

Admiral Yi

Got bogged down in season 3 of Fargo, switched to Mr. In Between on Hulu.  Digging it.

Is every single couple shown in an advertisement mixed race these days?

No. Some are just gay :P
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Ah sorry  :console:

Well the books are perhaps "better" but maybe not. I'd say they're above average historical crime fiction - although of the Cadfael variety where all the heroes are, fundamentally, tolerant 21st century secular liberals. And I'm fairly sure all the twists and non-twists are from the books.

There's 6-7 books - off the top of my head I don't think any really deals with Cromwell's downfall, but Shardlake's patron shifts through the series.
Let's bomb Russia!

There are nuggets of good ideas there - I like that Shardlake is motivated by doing justice while everyone else just cares for expediency, but by doing so he ends up furthering an unjust cause (the greed of his patron).

But the writing has the subtlety and nuance of a sledgehammer.

Savonarola

I watched a series of short films by Georges Méliès that were in color.  Back in those days (1899-1910) the only way to do color was to hand taint each frame of the film; so usually they'd only color parts of the frame and leave the rest in black and white.  It's hard to imagine that much effort even for a one or two reel film; but the (restored) colors looked sharp.  "A Trip to the Moon," "The Impossible Voyage" and "Tonight, Tonight" are his best films; the other ones tend to be very stagey or quite short.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Vodka and gin have become real drinks.  There's, like, 300 varieties of vodka gins and dry gins to choose from at the SAQ here and we don't have them all.  Tequila seem less popular than in the US.  I don't often hear people talking about it anymore as I did 20 years ago.  Little drinks is all the rage now.  Well, it has been for a while now.

CB and I have been watching the first season of Kung Fu (ran from 1972-1973.)  On the episode we watched one of the guest stars was Jodie Foster.  She must have been about 9 at the time of filming.  I thought she did a good job, not good enough that I'd want to assassinate an elected leader (even after reading Catcher in the Rye), but still good.

Oh man....I used to watch that when I was little.
