Well, we were right in wondering if there was something wrong with him, at least.

I see he still has 8 movies pending release over this year and the next at the moment. Now that his condition has been made public I wonder what the proper thing would be, you still release them, as a way to honour his career, or do you keep them from being released to protect his legacy?

It is sad. :(

Of course, he also did elect to participate in these films.

I guess it would depend a lot on what his contract says re: profit and/or revenue sharing. If he's due some of the revenue from theatrical releases or streaming then it would seem a bit scummy to not release them (though there might be penalties in his favor if such titles don't get released?).

As a possible worst case I wonder if you'll get any production companies suing him for not disclosing his condition, the films failure was all his fault, etc..

Depends if they were privately informed of his condition.  Depends on how big the part was.

Quote from: Josquius on March 31, 2022, 07:22:52 AMI do remember reading a review of his latest film, it was pretty damning about how bored and uninterested he looks. Now we know.
That describes his last dozen movies.

QuoteRazzies Rescind Bruce Willis' "Worst Performance" Award Following Aphasia Diagnosis

The veteran star's diagnosis was made public earlier this week when his family issued a statement announcing his plans to step away from his acting career.

The Razzie Awards announced Thursday their decision to rescind a "worst performance" honor given to Bruce Willis earlier this month following the announcement of his diagnosis of aphasia.

"After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the Razzie Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis," John Wilson and Mo Murphy, co-founders of the Razzies, said in a statement. "If someone's medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie."

The actor's performance in the sci-fi action film Cosmic Sin was given an award in the now-removed category of worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 movie. The Razzies, which are a parody award show and typically honor the worst under-achievements in cinema, had nominated Willis for seven other roles, making the "worst performance" category completely focused on the actor.

Willis' family shared in a public statement on Wednesday that the veteran actor would be "stepping away" from his career after being diagnosed with aphasia, a cognitive, language-based condition that affects the ability to understand and express speech.

The actor, 67, remains best known for thrillers including the Die Hard franchise and M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense, but had, in recent years, taken on roles in a string of smaller-budget films such as Gasoline Alley, Out of Death and Hard Kill.

In the same statement, Wilson and Murphy also referenced their decision to rescind an award given to Shelley Duvall. "As we recently mentioned in a Vulture interview, extenuating circumstances also apply to Shelley Duvall in The Shining. We have since discovered that Duvall's performance was impacted by Stanley Kubrick's treatment of her throughout the production. We would like to take this opportunity to rescind her 1980 nomination as well."

I missed it in the cinema, so I'll try to watch it at home now. I hope it doesn't loses much from not being seen on a big screen.

It's working OK for me on a small screen.

Watching Dune at home was in some ways better than seeing it in the theatre - I could actually hear all the whispered dialogue that I could not hear over the loud background music in the theatre.  Maybe their sound tuning was off?  What is lost is the stunning visual impact but actually being able to hear stuff is a plus.

I find the movie going experience has deteriorated a lot over the last decade or so. Or maybe I'm just old and grumpy.

Well when a movie and popcorn combined would cost ten bucks you could go with a few friends and get dinner before hand, and make it a night out, even if the movie was just 'OK' it was still a good way to spend a few hours. Now when a movie and popcorn would cost 30 bucks and dinner at least as much it is a major concern.  Combine that with us being older and often having a harder time scheduling things it is just too much of a pain in the ass to bother with.
