I was making a classic rock CD earlier for an upcoming car trip and got into a discussion with my bro about this. For some reason I used to hate Led Zeppelin (don't recall why), but in the process of building out the playlist I threw some Zeppelin in there anyway. Driving around @ lunch and listening to Kashmir, it kinda hammered itself into my head and now I can't get it out, which I think means that I like it.
I'm thinking for a while there was some kind of backlash against liking Zeppelin and so maybe I got sucked into that, or maybe it was the only angsty teenagers are allowed to like them.
I've always thought Pink Floyd was ok and have always loved Comfortably Numb, but think they might fall into the same 'only teenagers are allowed to like these guys' category.
Both. Brilliant music is brilliant.
Both. Zeppelin maybe slightly more.
Semi-related, in Argentina you're either a Beatles or Rolling Stones fan. Never both. If you like one you must hate the other.

I would be in the Stones camp, personally. Brown Sugar

I guess I can understand that. But I would vote both to that as well.

I think both bands were good, but over-rated, and yeah, there's been a bit of a backlash from that, so now if anything both (especially Zeppelin) might be a bit under-rated. That said, I like 'em both, but if I had to chose between them, I'd go with Zeppelin.

Floyd. I could never get into Zeppelin.
Like both, but like Pink Floyd more.
Love them both.
I've been a Floyd fan, and a huge one at that, for over 30 years. For some reason, though, I don't even own a Zeppelin album. I like Kashmir, and Achilles, and one or two more, but I never quite delved into them so much. I guess they're not really proggy.

My answer to that question is usually, "The Who".
Same era, both British, but rather different, blues-rock vs prog-rock, secondary/grammar vs public schoolboys and so forth. :bowler:
I like both, broadly equally, but for different reasons.

Both in my top 10 easily.
Both, but Floyd vastly more. I've only a passing interest in Zeppelin, but I'm a pretty huge Floyd fan. It's a shame my discography didn't survive my old computer; all I've got left is Division Bell. Perhaps that will be sufficient. :(
I will say that The Wall got me through a really tough day once.
Both, though I came to Led Zeppelin later. Pretty much every school dance ended with "Stairway to Heaven."
Prog :x
Blues

Both in my personal Heaven of Music.
I started listening to them when I was 16, and still regularly put on their records.
Not later than last week I had Physical Graffiti in my car's CD player.

While there's no doubt that Zep are rock-blues, I won't classify PF as "prog". They're a league on their own.
Prog is Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, ELP, some of the most boring music ever created.

No, the Division Bell is certainly not sufficient.
except for a few truly great songs from both, they both seem to get very old very fast when I am sober :P
Neither, actually. But I suppose some of Pink Floyd is good, if I were a stoner from the 70s smoking beer can coolies.

Yeah, Pink Floyd isn't really prog, but they get classified as progressive rock because they fit into any other rock genre even less well.
I like some progressive rock, but it's certainly not my favorite.

First of all what you say is tantamount to blasphemy. Prog is the only form of music worth listening to. And while I admit that Floyd were into their own thing, they were very much part of that prog vanguard of the early 70s. Listen to Echoes, if you still doubt.

While Yes is generally prog, I don't consider "Owner of a Lonely Heart" prog- 90125 and Big Generator were more arena rock than anything else.
Also, at Josephus for dissing The Division Bell. Hands down my favorite Floyd album, Wish You Were Here and Animals tied for second.
I agree that Owner of a Lonely Heart is atypical for Yes, but it's still a good song.

I like Division Bell, don't get me wrong. But I don't think it's part of an essential Floyd catalogue. Your other two choices, though, certainly are.

Dude, prog is a much wider genre than that. It does include a bunch of rock-bluesy bands like LZ, and also Pink Floyd, Queensryche and Tool.

The Wall got me through the entirety of high school.
The Wall is a Roger Waters album in all but name.
There's a legal reason only Waters, and not Gilmour-led PF, still perform The Wall. Gilmour only plays Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell in shows because these are the only ones that he has writing rights on. Gilmour revealed that The Wall is one of the PF albums that he finds the least interesting, because it was all Waters raging-on.
Kentuckians still make mixed CDs?
Define like.
I certainly won't complain about either of them, they have some awesome stuff, but they're not who I normally listen to.

Agreed, though it is my favorite Floyd album, with The Wall following closely behind (though my favorite song/bit from The Wall isn't even on the album proper, it's on the demos and the film version--"What Shall We Do Now" gets left off, but "Young Lust" gets kept on, whatever, dude). Third is probably Animals or Wish You Were Here, but may actually be Final Cut, which I think is weirder than Division Bell as a favorite. -_-
If I had to chose bewtweeen the two, I'd pic Led Zeppelin! :punk:

I dont know about that. Seems to me there is a whole new wave (no pun intended) of bands out there with the same sound and they are very popular with my boys and their peers. Its a bit wierd for me to hear them having Dub Step and this stuff in the same mix but they seem to like it.
