Title: NFL Week 17 - Almost nobody is trying
Post by: Neil on December 30, 2012, 01:45:41 PM
There are games being played right now.

And I hated that review by Ron Winter.  He is the worst.

Yeah the Texans all but handed a first round bye to the Pats.

Chicago wins so I guess now it is win or bust for the Redskins.

This year you can't throw a challenge on a play that is automatically reviewed (a touchdown or a turnover), or else it's unsportsmanlike conduct.  The point is to keep the coaches from snarking the refs with passive aggression.

It really is.  The worst part is that if you throw the flag after they've buzzed down the review, then they won't review the play and whayever they called on the field stands.  That's what fucked the Lions (of course ) out of a win on US Thanksgiving.

Well, AP came up 9 yards short, but they made it to the playoffs.

Well that, and the 15 play 97 yard game tying drive late in the fourth quarter (about 20 minutes after they "lost," although still had the lead, on the bad call) they gave up.  Probably something with the jacked up possessions in OT too.  :hmm:

Btw, re: Tyrod Taylor, I wouldn't get *too* excited about his performance early on.  I talked to one of the defensive assistants after the game to see what the deal was with him running circles around them-- turns out they did zero prep for Taylor.  No clue why, since it seemed pretty obvious that Flacco was not going to play the whole game.  Anyway after they had a couple series with him they were able to contain him for the most part.

Yeah, no kidding.  What this game showed me is that Taylor isn't the guy and all the people who are on the 'let Flacco walk so Taylor can start' people are either retarded or racist.

I feel bad for AP.  His career is basically over and he didn't get the record.

Hate to beak it to you, but I don't get excited over Taylor. Ever.  He's just another Beamer Ball bullshit artist, all wheels, no arm.  They should've kept Beck.

Pierce, on the other hand, will get a major FA contract when his rookie contract is up.

I wonder how much Seahawks/Skins tickets will be...this is a rare opportunity.

Though if this game is $300 for standing room only, the RG3 premium is probably too much to bear.

I'm telling you not as a Foreskins hater, but as a friend:  you don't ever want to go to that stadium.  It's the worst stadium experience to get in and out of ever, and I've been to my share of stadiums.

This is how it goes for a 1pm game:
1) You're going to have to aim to get there before 11am, because you're going to be forced to park at one of the many business parks in the area, then walk to a ferry point to wait for a transit shuttle--not a bus, a shuttle.  Like one of the ones you see ferrying around the elderly for their day trips to the mall.
2) That shuttle, when you finally get on one, will take you to another shuttle stop a while away, where you'll get off and walk to another transit point, and wait in line for a bus.
3) The bus will take you to within eyesight of the stadium, but can't get close because of the reserved parking.  You will then walk for about 1/2 of a mile.
4) After the game, you will walk back to the bus areas, which are fenced in according to destination, so you'll feel like Jews or cattle, depending on who won the game.
5) You will see your bus off in the distance, but not moving for a very long time, because they allow the reserved parking lots for the 1%ers to empty out before they bring the buses to the pens.
6) You'll eventually get to the end of the line and mount up, and take the bus to the shuttle point.
7) You'll walk back to your shuttle point, and wait in line for the shuttle to your satellite parking.
8) You'll get off the shuttle that's been fighting traffic with everyone else, and walk back to your car.
9) You'll then wait in traffic, hoping to get to the beltway by Monday.

Never mind the Metro;  the station is a mile away, and Metro transit won't shuttle to the park, because of federal regulations.

All this because that douchebag wanted to build a stadium in the middle of nowhere--but the local mega negro church bordering the stadium wouldn't sell to him, so their property totally fucked up the parking potential around the stadium;  and they don't allow stadium parking there, because church is in session at game time.

We went to a Bucs-Foreskins game once; game ended at 4:10pm;  we didn't get to our car until almost 6pm.  It's fucking ridiculous.

I'll never go to that stadium ever fucking again, I don't care if Jesus Christ Lazurus'd Johnny U's dead ass to quarterback the Ravens in the Super Bowl there.  Nope.  Fuck that stadium.

RFK, now that was a breeze to go to.  Come out of the metro, and there she was.  Only The Danny could fuck up a stadium.

This is a tough call here.  I can't root for a Dan Snyder team ever.  He is just too much of a douchebag.

The Cowboys are the Cowboys, and while it ain't like it was back in the day, they always have a buttload of awful fans who are so visibly hurt when they choke at the end of each December.

I don't agree with the "have to hate the Cowboys" people, but it is ok to spit on their fans and call them gigantic piles of crap.  It is always ok to hate the owner of the 'skins and therefore root against the team.

I think it is a push.  What happens if they tie?

Dallas is going to have to do something about Romo.  As good as he can be sometimes, he does that stuff far too often.

He's not as bad as Testaverde, but he's pretty damned close with his decision making.  I can't think of another quarterback that talented, and that flawed.

Just FYI it was Zombie Jack Kent Cooke who moved the Skins to Landover.  Crazy Dan inherited the place when he bought the team, and the fact the club owns it is why the Skins are worth so much.

Hey now.  Harrison and Wayne are both top-shelf receivers, and Stokley and Clark were both pretty good.  He also had a great line.  Remember, these guys made Joseph Addai look like a star.  The defence was weak, at most positions that weren't pass rusher or constantly injured safety, but the Saints have shown us that you don't really need a defence to win if you're productive enough.

They kept Manning upright and kept the runnign game going.  If they weren't great, they played great.
Title: Re: NFL Week 17 - Almost nobody is trying
Post by: Admiral Yi on December 31, 2012, 10:24:50 AM
They didn't beat savage blitzes and buy Peyton time to unload on deep routes.  Most of his unsackability was due to his god-like ability to read defenses and check off to hot routes.

Indy's run offense was like the old Marshall Faulk Ram's run offense: when you pass 80% of the time defenses are running their nickel, dime, and ha'penny packages.  All kinds of space for a running back.

Rough Black Monday so far.

Coaches:

Lovie Smith, Chan Gailey, Pat Shurmer, Andy Reid, Romeo Crenel are gone for sure.  Norv is gone in San Diego.

GMs:

Tannebaum (NYJ), Heckert (Cleveland), Smith (Jacksonville), AJ Smith (SD).  Nix (Buffalo) is likely to go.  Looks like Pioli will stay on in KC.

EDIT:  Norv and AJ Smith both out in San Diego.

Yeah I just saw that and I'm not very happy about it.  Neither Lombardi nor Walsh could have won with the Cardinals' QB situation this year.  Wisenhunt may have "lost the team" but it's got to be hard to show up to work every week knowing there is almost 0% chance of winning.

I dunno;  saw a lot of talent wasted by Buddy Ryan with the Eagles, and Jack Pardee with the early 90s Oilers.

But yeah, San Diego wasted a lot of talent, and got what it deserved for firing Marty.  MARTYBALL UBER ALLES.*

They should have let them both go.

Rex can make a pretty convincing argument that he just didn't have the players to compete.  The Jets roster is awful.  That crappy talent did a pretty good job of quitting on Rex though.

Also the GM that traded Tebow will be Executive of the Year.  The GM that traded for Tebow was fired yesterday.

Thing is, Rex has made pretty convincing arguments that these have been his players, and he's gotten everyone he's asked for, from showing up on Bart Scott's doorstep the day he was hired, to asking for a drafted QB in Mark Sanchez and a bust in Shonn Greene.  It's just as much his bed as it was Tannenbaum's.

Meanwhile, once again after every season, I can exhale.

QuoteRavens assistant general manager Eric DeCosta isn't going anywhere.

Although the AFC North champions indicated a number of teams have contacted them to ask permission to interview DeCosta for general manager vacancies, DeCosta has no intention of seeking employment elsewhere.

DeCosta was given a multi-year, lucrative contract last year to remain in Baltimore when other teams wanted to make him their general manager. Contractually, DeCosta is designated as the Ravens' general manager in waiting behind veteran general manager Ozzie Newsome.

"I love being a part of the Ravens and plan to stay here and help them win championships. I have no intentions of leaving this team."

Not sure, I'll have to check.  I do know that the coach at the time, Josh McDaniels, was the biggest reason they drafted Tebow.

They both should have gone.  You can argue that Rex has way to much sway over GM-type decisions, but ultimately the GM's job is to stock the cupboard.  When the cupboard is bare at just about every position, the GM takes the rap.  Even when Rex got the Sanchez he wanted and Woody got the Tebow he wanted, there's no excuse at wideout, or the line.
