Title: [Platform] NCAA 2013
Post by: CountDeMoney on May 08, 2012, 10:11:42 PM
OK, got the EA email for the July 10th release date.

Anybody know if they fixed the fucking Dynasty Mode?  I want my multiple dynasties back.

I'm just glad EA hasn't managed to hook me like that on Madden too.  One roster update per year is bad enough.

I skipped last years edition as was away from home most of the College Football season. How did they break Dynasty in '12?

You know how before, if you wanted multiple coaches to control dynasties in the same dynasty mode, you had one simple page where you could select and populate up to 12 different teams?

Yeah, well they got rid of that.  Only one dynasty team at a time.

Nope.  The only way to get around it was to eliminate a team's head coach and make your own.

Incredibly stupid feature.  A million college dorms screamed out in horror at once when they couldn't have league play anymore.

Okay, USPS actually delivered my game. Load it up. Lots of ESPN graphics. No Lee Corso.  :(

Load up exhibition, Ohio State vs Rice. Yes, a patsy game. Oh fuck, the spread and my kryptonite, the option. Fuck it, I'll power run and throw.

I proceed to jam Carlos Hyde up the Rice Owl's anus. I think The Buckeye receivers might be rated a little high. I get on D and proceed to use Simon (#54) and ripped 2 QB's new anuses.

I came.

Win 50 something to 0. Okay. Check out the heisman stuff..... I NEED TO PAY FOR ARCHIE GRIFFIN? FUCK YOU EA.

Up next, Wyoming vs the World.

Wyoming took their uniform colors from a flower, the Brown Eyed Susan (no, not THAT brown eye) that was used as decorations at one of the very early trustee meetings.

Brown and Gold, it is one of those things one has to get used to for Wyoming.

Having a lot of fun with my Terpies dynasty;  you spend more time in the recruitment model than actually playing.

Only thing that pisses me off is they still don't have the multiple-dynasties-at-once feature anymore, which really, really sucks.

What does it mean when there is a star around your player?  I don't mean the black star under your player, I assume that means that he is an impact player?   But i mean the star around say your quarterback that is the same color as when the player is highlighted but isn't always present.  Can't seem to figure out what it means exactly.
Title: Re: [Platform] NCAA 2013
Post by: CountDeMoney on December 07, 2012, 01:34:55 PM
The star is the Impact Player notation.
Title: Re: [Platform] NCAA 2013
Post by: Alcibiades on December 07, 2012, 02:04:28 PM
So what's the black star, then?  Thought that was the impact player notification.   :hmm:
Title: Re: [Platform] NCAA 2013
Post by: CountDeMoney on December 07, 2012, 02:11:09 PM
On the field, the black star is the Impact Player indicator.  The color of it is the "level" in the game when you select "See my player level" before the snap, and is the level the player is currently performing at:  Red: hot streak, blue: cold streak or shaken.
Title: Re: [Platform] NCAA 2013
Post by: Alcibiades on December 07, 2012, 02:14:49 PM
Ok, I'm not talking about when, for instance on the PS3, you hit r stick down and it shows blue - yellow - red - and pulsing.   I'm talking about when you're sitting pre-snap and from time to time a linebacker or the QB/RB will have a light blue star around their halo/selected icon.
Title: Re: [Platform] NCAA 2013
Post by: CountDeMoney on December 07, 2012, 02:19:11 PM
Other than it's the actual indicator of scrolling through the players, in which the Impact Player star will be highlighted when you're on the player, I don't know what the hell you're talking about, man.

Trying out first dynasty, picked New Mexico for giggles.
Trying to woo 4 stars to the High Desert is fun! :bleeding:
Though having Texas and California considered Pipeline states is fun.

1st game was blowout to Texas 58-0 ugh
2nd game tough loss on road to Texas "we lock kids in dark storerooms" Tech 26-21 even though had two pick 6's on D. :(
Title: Re: [Platform] NCAA 2013
Post by: CountDeMoney on December 08, 2012, 02:06:49 AM
Yeah, it's tough to get 4 stars and 5 stars to a lowbie team, but even one 4 star makes a massive difference on a team like that;  hell, my Terps offense turned around just by snagging a 6'7" 265 pound ball magnet of a TE.
Once you start winning and meeting your coaching goals, the recruits start coming in.

Even at the lower star levels, go after whatever ATH types you can get;  even though they have no designation, and the skills take a long time to scout out, the great thing is once you get them signed, you can select their position, and they all have the potential for multiple positions, some better than others;  my first 5 star ATH I managed to recruit I thought I was going to plug in as a scatback/slot wideout because of his massive speed gave him a HB and WR rating of 77, but turned out he had a cannon of an arm that gave him a QB rating of 80.  True starting frosh at QB, wound up with an overall 99 rating as a senior.

Post by: katmai on December 08, 2012, 02:25:38 AM
Yeah it's amazing how many 4 stars prospects you can attract with promises of playing time and they comment on how shitty your squad depth is

Game #3 vs Rival NMSU Aggies.
Success!, after a ping pong battle win the game on a 4th and goal from the 7, quick slant to my uber Wideout who breaks 2 tackles on the goal line and plunges in for winning score with under 2 mins to go.
The Offense was paced though by Junior RB who ran for 166 yds and caught 2 important receptions that moved the chains.
My best player on D is Sophmore FS from....Ferndale, MD ?!?!!?

Is it possible to take a team like UTSA or San Jose State to the National Championship in a couple seasons? If so, does it feel gamey and gimmicky or does it feel like you accomplished something? The last NCAA game I played was like back in 2008 or 2009 and only for a few hours.

But really Seedy got Maryland to champs in what 5 years?

And it was a fucking haul.  Anyway, I'm in the first year of my third contract, so I'm starting my 7th season.

My first year, I managed to get them into to the Champs Sports Bowl with an 8-4 record;  if I hadn't dropped my last game, I would've drawn Rutgers.  Alas, I got Notre Dame, and got pasted.
2nd season, I got to the Chik-fil-A bowl, and lost to South Carolina in a squeaker.
3rd season, I won the ACC and got to the Orange Bowl and beat somebody.
4th season, I lost the ACC Championship to FSU, but got to the Orange Bowl and had my vengeance against South Carolina.

Thing is, when you start getting to bowls and winning them, even little ones, it starts to attract the recruits.  And I always stay one season ahead with my team needs, so I'm not jammed up in a position by seniors or declaring juniors.

Important thing is, you can't break your promises to recruits, because they will transfer out, and it's a bitch.  The easiest ones to make and keep are beating team rivals in the first season, no redshirt the first year (I usually redshirt sophomores, they get some nice upgrades in the off-season workout as a freshman and some playing time, and then get some improvements after the redshirt phase), and if he's a high enough freshman to start over your sophs or juniors, substantial playing time as a fresh.  Hell, at the point I'm at now, I manage something like 330 points a promise.  It helps keeping you in contention, and I've overtaken teams that have been in the top 3 phase.

Biggest thing I did for Maryland was making an effort to establish Ohio, California and Florida as pipeline states.  That pipeline bonus comes in handy.

I'm starting a parallel dynasty with Navy.

Little schools can become major powers, but it takes time.  Beat your rivals, get to bowls and win them, and win home games.  That will increase both your coach and team prestige ratings over time, and definitely impact your recruiting.

I always liked to take small/crappy schools and turn them around.  My favorite one was probably 7 years ago when I made Duke into a dominant National Power.  Winning a conference game at Florida State for the first time was awesome, there are very few times a video game made me feel that good.
Title: Re: [Platform] NCAA 2013
Post by: CountDeMoney on December 08, 2012, 12:39:05 PM
Yeah, unlike NCAA versions from years ago, it actually takes some substantial time and effort to turn little schools around.
Also, in addition to modifying the difficulty level in game, you can also adjust the difficulty level in recruiting, so you can tip the scales a little early.

I know they did something to nerf recruiting just a year or two after I started playing the series (which was ~2002 or so).  I know there were no promises and in season recruiting hadn't come along yet.  I took Oregon on to win the National Championship and that off-season I had so many recruiting points I threw a bunch away each week and still got every kid I wanted, even if they didn't want me at the start of recruiting.  The next year's game I won the NC with the Ducks again and barely had enough recruiting points to call the 2 4 star recruits in Oregon.

So I looked into it and my quarterback snuck into a star player that year, my bad.

Just finished my third season with Illiniois, back to back national championships without any created players.   Was thinking it was getting way too easy (which it kind is to be honest) when I went into the national championship with Georgia for the 2nd time and we went into 2nd overtime.

Tied the game at 21 with a 35 yard throw as time expired in the 4th to put it into overtime and ended up winning it with a goal line slant.     Espn instant classic score of 2950   :showoff:

Yeah i didn't realize you could change it till 3/4th of way through 1st season, bumped it up to AA and feels more of a pain in finding what their priorities are.

Wait until your first off-season, and you have to deal with the transfers who bitch about playing time or want to declare early for the NFL draft.  You have to choose how you deal with them in convincing to stay.

Best fucking running back I ever recruited transferred to Miami after his redshirt first year because "he was homesick".  Little shit.

I generated my own player, a fullback, using my real-life stats.  Looks like a fire hydrant in shoulderpads.

Well i had two guys leave, my New Mexico team was so shitty I didn't even try to stop them, as one good one was Sophomore to be DT, and the three guys I had signed all were higher ability then him

So far in 2nd season I'm snake bit by my star RB whom I should rename as "Mr.Glass" as the fucker gets hurt every single game.
Have two nice Frosh RB that are having to be thrown to the wolves before their time :(
Beat 'Zona St 33-30
Lost to Minnesota 23-19
Lost to Colorado St 27-21 as threw a horrible pick inside the 20 with less than 2:00 in 4th

Oh i bet i can beat you.
My starter the first year was like 7 TD's, 17 Int.
And his ratio was still better than the backup! (who is now the starter and 50/50 ratio even after throwing 2 picks in loss to CSU)

Yeah, you really have to respect the touch they've incorporated in the passing game.  I've managed to get more disciplined with putting some air underneath the ball, as some line drives will simply be snatched.

That was my biggest bitch with the game, every linebacker in the country had a 56" vertical leap and got their hands on any ball that went over their head.

I always get my straight outs snatched away on short yard plays.

Usually take them to the house too.   :(

Just don't throw the out on man to man coverage.  Audible out of the out pattern to a hitch or curl, watch the DB keep running while it's in the air before your man even comes back for the ball.

You guys want an exercise in futility?  Play an option school on Heisman settings for gameplay and recruiting.

My dynasty with Navy is a fright fest.  One holding call, and the drive comes to a halt.
And recruiting?  What kind of school has 6 senior linebackers and all the running backs but one is a senior?

I'm 2 and 3 so far;  thank Christ I beat Air Force at the end of the game, courtesy of a muffed punt that dropped me inside their 10 yard line under 2 minutes so I could kick the field goal.

i started 2nd dynasty with U of Washington.
Made it to #2 in Nation after wins over Stanford, Oregon, and USC.
Was all set to play Arkansas for BCS title when they lost to LSU and we couldn't get past Wazzu :bleeding:
After beating USC for 2nd time in the Pac-12 Championship sent to Rose Bowl where we end up facing Arkansas  (Wisconsin the Big 10 champ over Nebraska ended up #2 and in BCS vs LSU)

We prevailed over the Razorbacks and enter our 2nd season #7 in preseason with opening game vs Boise St

On recruiting front, with team in top 20 most of the year and winning Rose Bowl i actually had problem where I offered scholarships too soon to some decent *** and **** recruits and so at end had ***** that wanted to come to UW but I had no scholarships for them <_<

I deleted my Navy dynasty in its 2nd year.

Recruitment was simply too damned frustrating.   Even improving my Coach Stability, going after players whose positions had As for Playing Time and Playing Style, every fucking one of them was rated Low, Very Low or Least...even after I wiped off most of the recruitment board and started over with new recruit targets.

I think I'll start over with another lowbie team, but probably not one that runs the option.  Talk about fucking frustration.

Probably fairly accurate for the academies.  Low interest by most potential recruits.

Playing Style is one thing, but not being interested in plenty of playing time immediately?  Pfft.

But what I I wholly disagree with in the game is the "academic reputation" of the academies rated as B-/C+.  Annapolis, West Point and Colorado Springs are some of the finest educations you can get in America.

But hey, what do I know.

QuoteThe U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis ranked as the top public liberal arts college in the country, pushing its traditional rival, the U.S. Military Academy, with which it shared the top honors last year, into the No. 2 spot, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings.

So in 2nd season of UDub dynasty.
Huskies ran the table and were 12-0 going into the Pac 12 Champ vs  7-5 Utah who won the South.
Ended up losing 22-20 on heartbreaker of last second FG.
With loss there goes the chance for national Championship game vs Georgia <_<
Losing to Utah meant no Rose Bowl and ended up behind Oregon in BCS so instead of even making a BCS bowl we end up in San Antonio in the Alamo bowl vs 6-6 Iowa St.

Ah yeah, was reading about this.  They just won't be able to use "NCAA" anymore.  So it'll be "College Football" instead, and it isn't exclusive to EA anymore.
