The comics I read in the 80s were Spiderman, Punisher and X-Men. I never got into Hulk, Iron Man, Cpt America or Thor much, though I like the recent movies and look forward to the Avenger movie.

So, for nostalgia's sake I go with X-Men.

I really only like Wolverine, Rogue and a couple of the lesser X men, so I went with the Avengers since I like almost all of them.

If the X Men have Magneto and Emma Frost then the Avengers are fucked. If they also had Xavier it'd be so one sided it wouldn't be fun.

Avengers/Justice League are lame. Super heroes shouldn't cross over, especially in such ridiculous ways. Avengers is less lame than JL of course but still....

X-Men are cool.

Ergo X-Men.

Voted "DC Fan" because Marvel, other than Waid's Daredevil*, sucks these days, and basically has since, arguably, Civil War, and definitely since One More Day.

*I assume.  It's not sold digitally, so I'm waiting for the trade.  Mark Waid does little wrong, though, and the art by those Hispanic fellows is beautiful.

So was Secret Six.

Although maybe not better than Batwoman, so long as it's the JH Williams III-drawn issues.  I mean holy shit, that guy is amazing.  Maybe you're not an art guy.

Title: Re: Avengers vs. X-Men
Post by: Ideologue on March 22, 2012, 11:05:55 PM
Sure.  But Batwoman could be unlettered and I'd probably still buy it.  You know JH Williams, right?  Alan Moore's Promethea was his biggest deal, but he also did some other stuff (Ellis' Desolation Jones, for example).

Lots of double-page layouts which remind me of Byrne in the 80s, very ornate panel design that reminds me of no one, and a mastery of many art styles (I've seen him ape Year One/Born Again-era Mazzuchelli, for example, as well as paint), and a default style that reminds me of Jae Lee, except with backgrounds, which I really appreciate as Jae Lee is great (except for the backgrounds).

We're 3 now. I voted manga, too.  ;)  It usually has far better stories. Either that, or they're so incredibly zany and over the top that they can actually make me laugh, something american comics never managed to do.

Anyway, the last I've read of the Avengers was... whenever Dr. Banner's mind could control the Hulk.

And as for the X-Men... my last memories of them were when the Phoenix (Jean Grey) becaome Dark Phoenix (I liked that).

Some years later I noticed that they had been joined by a hot chick called Rogue, but I was too old by then to pay attention to their stories.

(I did recently saw a videogame where the Wolverine was trading blows with Ryu and Chun Li was facing both Dr. Doom and Mageto)

Based on my memories, I would like the X-Men over the Avengers.

Voted X-Men as they've been so poorly written recently (with a few exceptions) they need a win. Actually I just want there to be a moratorium of fricking crossovers already. Team-ups are one thing, but sheesh, wouldn't it be novel to just have a bunch of solo stories, or short arcs that belonged just to the characters in the comic.
