So....in case you haven't noticed today is rather special.
Will we see the end of the world before the day is out?
Will sales of pocky go through the roof?
Should I feel bad about wasting such a day?
Or is it just a freak coincidence that means nothing whatsoever.
Thursday?
If the world ends in Japan give the rest of us a quick heads up Squeeze.

So, you're saying that it's just by blind luck that 111111 day happens to be tomorrow? Out of all possible days that 111111 could be on, it happens to occur now. :yeahright:
I'm gonna watch the Carrier Classic. Spartans vs Tarheels on the deck of the Vinson? USA! USA! USA!
It just occured to me that we won't have a 111111 day after tomorrow for another 100 years. :o It blows your mind if you think about it.

Did they enclose a court or is it open air?
How the hell are the players supposed to get laid after the game?
How the hell are they guaranteeing the safety of the cheerleaders?

Its the 11th in Europe too, the majority of the world's population is in the 11th. :p

Kind of.
I mean we are starting our dating system from an arbitrary point and we regularly fudge it with leap years.

One on the deck and another one in the hangar in case of bad weather.

The cool thing about 111111 is that it is 111111 whether you go by the European dd/mm/yy method or the American mm/dd/yy method. :D
This was only cool on 11-11-1111

Thats the British dd/mm/yy. Lots of Euros (well...the Swedes at least, don't know about most) use yy/mm/dd.
But yes, truly a day of universal peace and harmony.
While generally, Americans use mm/dd/yy method, the military uses dd//mm/yy.
The American mm/dd/yy never made sense to me. It's neither ascending nor descending in the level of magnitude.

Yes, but many of the countries of the world don't use that dating system on that side of the world.

It makes sense if you consider that when talking about dates the year is usually understood to be the current year. "I'm going on vacation August 3rd." So August 3rd translates very intutitively as 8/3.
What if you say, "I'm going on the vacation on the 3rd of August"?

3rd (day of) August still makes more sense.
Yes, the American system sucks, this much is known.
I prefer the year first system due to it being nicer to computers.
All I know for sure is that this one goes to 11.
Tons of people are getting married today in HK. They booked years in advance. Say this is a special day that will bring good fortune etc.

I always write "I'm going on vacation Tuesday, 03 August". I am weird, though.
Whatever.
PULHES?
Only Alcy might get this one.
Today is Singles' Day in China. I take it singles are either supposed to mope or else go out and have casual sex with one another.
My PULHES is 111111.
Suck that, fags!
It's the independence day in Poland, and in Warsaw we are having the standard neonazi "patriots" march I'm going to protest against with thousands of Jews, gays, feminists, anarchists, socialists and other assorted leftists.

Not everyone speaks English so that syntax may be different in every language (and even in English you can say 3 August 2011, so your explanation does not make sense really). On the other hand, everyone has a tendency to order things the way dguller described.
The American way of writing dates always throws me off.

Just had the most awkward two minute silence while the Starbucks CD played Joy to the World. Another reason to hold off on playing Christmas music in early November.

You should feel bad for not remembering it's Remembrance day and having two minutes' silence at 11:11 in whatever timezone you choose.
I remember 7/7/77. I was on holiday in the Isle of Wight.

QuoteMassive docking bays provided several Star Destroyers with dry docks, and more than a million Imperial personnel were on board both battle stations.
Whether this includes civilian folks or not, is unclear.
QuoteSince service onboard the Death Star was a long-term affair, the station maintained a number of civilian amenities to make the time aboard a deep space station more comfortable. Parks, shopping centers, recreation areas, and taverns such as the Hard Heart Cantina could be found in the general sectors of the station.

Zero. It was a movie.
I don't think they used computer animation in the first film. At least when it was released.
