Title: 4:20 - is it in your city
Post by: crazy canuck on April 20, 2009, 05:15:14 PM
Currently there are about 2000 drug smoking, music making, dancing folks lining the public areas outside my office celebrating 4:20.  They have been there since this morning and we are now beginning to smell the effects of all that smoke as it wafts its way in this direction.

anything like that happening in your corners of the world.

US posters need not point out that this would not happen in their country.

No, because nothing this fucking stupid would happen in the US.

The surreal thing is there are lot of cops around but they are there directing traffic and simply observing all the pot smoking.

The only thing that really gets me upset about the whole thing is I can see that some thoughtful parents brought their small kids to sit in the crowd so that they inhale all the smoke.  But I guess this isnt so different from the air quality in their homes.

I also noticed that on the review site (yelp), there is now an entry for the marijuana truffle man (he walks around one of the parks selling marijuana baked into truffles). Oh SF!

There used to be something like this in Ann Arbor called Hash Bash.  Marijuana was more or less legal for the day and there was a protest and a street fair.  Unfortunately the state police cracked down on the marijuana being legal part; but you can still go to the protest and listen to Libertarians complain about the guv'mint keepin' dem down if that sort of thing is your bag.

Heh, Wikipedia really does have everything:

A colleague of mine went flyer-ing in the crowd for an event at his other job (Cheech & Chong Movie at the Rio) Did not have a toke. He didn't need to as being there long enough to get rid of his flyers, it was like he'd been hotboxing.

The cops have always largely left these things (there's also Cannabis Day on July1) alone. The only crime usually happened before they get to the place (the buying selling of the weed) plus it's a hella mellow crowd.

However I don't think people should be bringing their kids. that kind of attitude just idiotic.

One NDP MP does not an NDP town make.  Besides, that will be corrected in the next election.

Besides, it's a big enough riding that I don't have to tolerate the illegally registered university students that love pot and the NDP.

More than likely it's made with pot that was simmered in butter... the cannabinoids leach into the butter.  The butter is then used 'normally' to make the candy.

Eating pot in brownies or candies isn't the preferred way to take the drug - particularly from an unknown source: even if it is the real deal, you have no dosage control, and dosage control is critical. You do *not* want to take too much - trust me on this, it isn't pleasant.

Most wouldn't smoke only at 4,20; it's just that, that time(and/or day depending) is a sort of celebration of it.  Sort of like how the glory of mass consumption is celebrated on December 25th, but that doesn't stop one from consuming all year long.

Well, unless you actually know the guy who makes them, you may not have a good handle on how "reputable" they really are - but that being said, everyone's tollerance to the drug is different, and with the eaten form the difference between the dose needed to get you high and the dose which will make you uncomfortable is reasonably narrow. When eating the stuff you are dealing with several unknowns - how potent the pot that went in it is, how much went in it, how the processing has altered that potency, your tollerance relative to the guy making it, etc.

In contrast, with smoking the stuff you have a much better handle on dosage control, since the high is relatively quick, and taken in incremental manner - one takes one toke and then another and another, effectively "forward titrating" the dose. When you eat, you eat all at once. So when smoking, you don't need as much information or trust (plus you can see and smell the actual pot).

One of the nice things about smoking dope is that when you're too stoned you're usually too stoned to roll another joint.

Yup, exactly.

If you are eating and you ate too much, it is too late when you start feeling the effects. Plus, the effects are typically delayed by half an hour or more.

This is also the reason it is very hard to get cancer from smoking dope...you just cannot chain smoke it like cigarettes.

I am pretty tolerant when it comes to this sort of thing.  I don't care if people smoke pot anymore then I care whether they smoke cigarettes.  I just care if they invade my space while doing it.

However, these kinds of events are not exactly the best PR for the decriminalization movement.  Whenever I see the folks that turn out to them I can't help but think that pot had some causal effect on their lives and I begin to rethink my stance.

Its kind of like when I question my views on gay rights after reading too many of Marti's posts.

Heh, there is a certain ... self-selection going on. The freakshows are more likely to make a great to-do over their pot-smoking and thus are over-represented at such events.  :D

That being said, I'm of the view that regular, heavy pot smoking isn't good for anyone. Pretty well everyone I know who smokes the stuff regularly and heavily has, I think, some bad effects from it (though not nearly as bad in this respect as regular heavy drinking).

 I kinda doubt Marti is this way "in real life", and nearly all of the gays I've known offline have been delightful.

We're seeing the real Martinus, the evil that lurks in the heart of every gay.

By not supporting my 'Freedom For Homos' Bill, you're siding with the forces whose mission is to destroy humanity.
