I've recently picked back up the milk-drinking habit after taking about a decade off. My mother would always insist on drinking milk as a crucial health measure, but I always thought it was kind of disgusting and rebelled. Now I feel like it gives me some kind of special vitality.
Do you drink it? Whole, 2%, 1%, or skimmed? I am under the impression that Americans love drinking milk more than any other nation. Is this true?
I usually drink 2%. Whole is a nice treat but a little too rich. But I strongly prefer half-and-half or even light cream in my coffee; whole is as far down the chain as I will go for coffee. <2% just makes it too cold, watery, and grey.
I don't drink milk per se, but I have milk together with cereals, tea and coffee. Skimmed.
I drink 1% milk from time to time, and every morning on my cereal.
When I do drink milk, I also drink 2%. It seems like the best compromise between being too creamy and being too cold and watery. However, I don't drink all that much, I just have no desire to drink it regularly. I also tend to produce lots of silent but deadly chemical weapons when I do drink lots of milk.
Rarely if ever. I'll buy a small 500 ml bottle of chocolate every couple months and drink it. Sometimes when ordering iced tea I have condensed milk. On the extremely rare occasions I eat cereal I only use it as a condiment on top of yoghurt, so no milk there.
I almost always drink milk. Buy gallons of Vitamin D.
Not as much as I use to.
Yes.
Not so much these days, I hate the stuff in cartons and its a bitch to go to the supermarket to buy it all the time.
At home though where we have the proper stuff delivered to the doorstep (why does everything taste better in glass?) I tend to drink a pint a day.
My mam used to get me whole when I was a teenager (a growing boy needs it apparently) and I still prefer that but....its not good for me so I try to stick to semi-skimmed with very occasional splurges.
Only breast milk
Rarely.
I am drinking some now. Goes well with my hickory buttermilk pie.

God damn Caliga are you ever not eating fattening food?
It's a buttermilk pie left over from my mother in law's retirement dinner, which was (don't laugh) at a BBQ pit. Hence the delightful hickory smoke flavor.

Sorry, but wtf is a buttermilk pie?
Usually twice a day--whole milk and nothing but. I can't stand anything less than that.
It's like chess pie. It's got buttermilk in it instead of milk though.

I like milk. I picked up the habit again, and like the fat, vitamin and mineral boost. I can even find non-homogenised stuff here which I like.
I also dig buttermilk and goatsmilk.

I've at least heard of pecan, even if I've never had it.
No. Occasionally I'll drink the coffee-milk, but that's it.
I don't mind milk in my latte, or when used to make oatmeal. I just don't like drinking it straight-up. I also no longer eat cereal with milk.
I do drink orange juice regularly. That's just as good.
yes, lots of it, 2%
i only ever drink milk with meals, never on its own. when i do, it's skim. i hate every other kind

Drank it a lot more back home than I do in Korea. I especially like to drink it after having something chocolately.
Drink it pretty regularly. Can't have too large of a dose of dairy at once, hurts my stomach after going so long without in Iraq. :(
I love milk, especially in form of hot chocolate with vodka or amaretto or creme de menthe or calvados and a whipped cream topping.
Unfortunately, it usually upsets my stomach. Similar with yoghurt and other fresh milk products (though can be ok in small quantities, and it depends on the amount of physical stress I have).
mostly in my cereal and coffee. but I do have the occasional glass (read: swig from the carton) at home.
Usually only the amount included in my coffee.
Everyday at breakfast. 2% variety.
I used to drink pints of the stuff every day. Then someone told me it exacerbates psoriasis so I stopped. Now I only have it in tea :weep:
<--- somewhat lactose intolerant
No. It's unnatural. Mammals are not made to consume milk after weaning.

I hope you at least take calcium tablets, you're at that stage where the bones start to lose density. ;)
Oh snap, calling her brittle and old. C k has no mercy.
Never having heard of chess pie seems odd to me. I can understand Buttermilk, as that's less popular.
Milk is okay, and I drink it when I want to avoid Dr. Pepper but somehow didint immediately go for the lemonade. (tea would be my first choice above all of these, but the tea here..is not up to par.)
Egg nog is far superior to milk. I adore egg nog. Having recently coerced the missus into agreeing to make some, I plan to drink it on the hottest day of the year, and sneer at the heavens in my hubris.
I'm a regular veal.
I have no idea what buttermilk, vinegar or chess pies are.
Egg nog's great, especially with a fifth of bourbon whiskey mixed in. :mmm:
I tend not to drink milk much, per se; I'm very mildly lactose intolerant (I can deal with milk as an ingredient, but I can't really drink the stuff more than once in a blue moon).
Every day few glasses. In Germany, I can't find skimmed milk, so I've had to cut down on it. Even their low fat milk has 1.5%. Also, sometimes there's only sweet UHT milk available.
Finns are the milk-drinkiest Nation on Earth; here's a site with a table with numbers from 2006:

It is definitely a Southern thing, Lettuce. Most Yankees have never eaten or even heard of it. I only knew what it was prior to moving to Kentucky because I have family in Atlanta and my great aunt makes it. I've never once seen it for sale or on a menu in Boston or Philadelphia.
Cal would love a tres leche cake.
Skim milk, every day. Sometimes I put a packet of splenda in a glass, but mostly I just have it with cereal.

I really only use milk on hot or cold cereal, which is most breakfasts for me. So I get a decent helping of milk. I sometimes drink it but I use something like Ovaltine or other light mixer. I rarely drink just a glass of milk. I use Smartbalance 0% milk, which I think tastes quite good along with the low fat. Otherwise I'll use another brand of 1% or 2% fat.

But I sure don't put milk in my coffee. Totally disgusting. A coffee is black or it's no coffee at all dammit.

I prefer 1% but will settle for 2% or even whole.
My boys drink whole milk (3.5% fat). I dont drink as much as I used to but I still enjoy a glass or two a day. When I was a growing lad (between the ages of 14 and 19) I would normally drink at least a litre at breakfast and throughout the day another 3-4 litres.
My boys are not quite at that level yet but more and more space in my beer fridge is being taken by their milk.

I like drinking yogurt too occasionally. At least the fruit flavored ones. More than milk at least.
I drank about that much when I was a kid, cc. I had milk for lunch every day (school lunch carton) and then usually 2-3 glasses at night with dinner. We weren't allowed to drink soda at home until I was a teenager and my mom gave up, but even then I still usually drank milk.

Between 13 and 19 I went from 5'2'' 120 to 6'7'' 240. Takes a lot of milk to do that. :D I also ate a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs for breakfast most days between the ages of about 14 and 17.

That totally depends on what you are used to. I felt exactly the same, until I needed to diet and got used to skim. Now, 2% tastes over-rich to me and whole milk - like drinking butter.
Yeah, I strongly dislike the taste of whole milk (but typically cook with it exclusively). Generally when I drink milk it's 2%. When I was a kid, I drank whole milk though.

Yep, after I came back from hitch hiking through Europe in 89 I had trouble drinking milk again because I had completely lost the last of it after not drinking it while I was there. Even skim milk tasted strong to me. But when I started buying whole milk for my boys I got my taste back.

If I'm going to drink milk, it has to be whole milk. Skim just tastes like water. I actually love dairy and consume a lot, just not in milk form.
I don't think I ever had whole milk. Either 3.25% or 2%.
Oh, so 3.25% is whole milk.
Yeah, that sounds right. I had a fight once with my brother who insisted whole milk was "100%" and so therefore there was 1/50th as much fat in 2%.

What you have to remember is not only was I growing a lot I was also a playing varsity basketball and I was swimming competitively.
My day would start around 5 am with two hours of swimming, then to the gym for an hour basketball practice, school, Bball practice at lunch, Bball practice after school then another two hours in the pool in the evening.
I gave up the swimming by age 16 when the basketball tournaments conflicted too much with my swim meets.
