Durka?
I'm a huge Steve Jobs fanboi, but he was a grade A asshole to everyone in his life, and yes could sell ice to a proverbial eskimo.
It's what makes him such a fascinating character.
Went with both. Man certainly built an empire, but he was known to be a dishonest jackass.
Both.

I think so, Brain, but isn't a
really tiny cucumber called a gherkin?
Pretty good movie. If it's not exactly Boyle's best, it still beats the crap out of Sunshine.
The actual guy was okay, I guess, as far as billionaires go. Way better than, say, Peter Thiel. Never once suggested vampirism.
One button mouse. Guilty.

Thiel has light years on Jobs. At least he killed Gawker. That was a service to humanity.

Three button mouse - Archimedes. :bowler:

You just hate the concept of hope in sci-fi. :(

Ugh. Gates vs. Jobs. Sorta like the Eastern Front in WWII--there are no good guys there.

Bill Gates let me play Tie Fighter and Privateer on his OS while Steve Jobs only had Tetris.
I like Bill Gates' foundation...even though foundations are evil and corrupt and stuff.
Steve Jobs made wonderful and delightful consumer electronics, innovated entire new categories of products, and was a terrible human being to everyone in his personal and professional life.
Bill Gates copied and stole his way to a computer monopoly, but by all accounts is generally a very nice man and his philanthropy is saving the lives of millions of people.
Jobs >>> Gates in terms of influence on electronics and computers.
Jobs <<< Gates as a human being.
I was going to credit Jobs with putting internet on phone, but then wondered if the Blackberry already did that.

Lots of people put internet on a phone, but every single implementation sucked hard. iPhone design is what made it usable.

I don't agree with this. Engineered incompatibilities are terrible for tech.

I have no idea what a "engineered incompatibility" is, and google isn't helping.
He is saying Apple's insistence at using proprietary shit sucks.

It works, and what more it has influenced numerous companies to move to a more closed model as well (just look at the supposedly "free" Android). And while Microsoft has moved to embrace open-source software now, it sure as hell didn't during Gates' reign.

Exactly my point. It was terrible for tech.

That's a fine opinion to have.
I just don't see how it makes Gates look any better in comparison. Microsoft under his watch was notorious for trying to control your computing experience. Do the words "embrace, extend, extinguish" not mean anything to you?
Nothing about my statement was intended to indicate Gates was better. In my opinion both were pretty terrible. Hard to say which was worse.

I said "Jobs >>> Gates", and you replied "I don't agree with this". How the hell else are we supposed to take this?
Jobs == Gates, would be one example

Or you're a freetard and just wanted to spout off on a topic not really relevant to what you were replying to. I think I like that one. :)
That seems unnecessary.

Yeah whatever. Buying a software package is not exactly the same as making fucking hardware that costs many times more generic competitors. And it is not like OS is that great.
