With such an outstanding and talented personality taking office in the US, Russia may show its new willingness to get along with the US by attacking several neighboring countries. How do you think it will play out? Will they officially annex Belarus? Go after more of Russophonic Ukraine? Kazakhstan? Have more fun in the Caucasus? Cast your vote! :)

Alaska.
None.
Too much bad blood in the Baltics. Poland's basically off the table. I think the Russians are too shy of Islamic extremism atm to not want the Turkic nations at arms' length.
That leaves Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus.

Nonsense. Like Ukraine or Jews, the rest of Europe doesn't think they actually count as real people.

They seemed to have no problem flattening Chechnya for fun. I don't think they'd be that shy at all.

They'll just keep playing Little Green Men until Ukraine turns politically. I think that's going to be the model going forward.

Untrue. I'd be really annoyed if I had to bother with visa applications to go to Tallinn.

It isn't quite so simple. For example, the parts of Kazakhstan that border Russia have very significant Russian speaking non muslim populations.
But whatever happens, hopefully we can agree on one thing. In the unlikely event that it comes to pass that Russian tanks start moving across the Polish border, we need to unban Trump fanboy Martinus.

He's going to be a little too busy trundling along a muddy road in the back of an ox-drawn cart with the rest of the refugees to post "This Is Really About Me" threads with pictures of wine glasses in them.

Belarus isn't out of the question I think.
Russia would only annex territory from countries that try to leave the CIS or aren't part of it.
I think Belarus and Kazakhstan might re-join in some form of union when their rulers croak.
In other countries - I think Putin is interested in having a safety buffer around Russia, primarily in Europe. And him being KGB, I think he's primarily interested in pushing friendly regimes/governments in those countries (which does the double duty of creating dissent within the EU and NATO), and - in countries he fears to lose - create a frozen conflict, like in Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

When Lukashenko dies, Putin will probably "save" them from successional chaos. Though Putin has a couple years on him.
Isn't having a independent Belarus useful to them?
They don't have to rule directly but have it on their side giving them an extra voice at international meetings.
The next four-plus years are gonna suck for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
I don't think Putin sees any use in downright annexing Belarus. It does its job as it is, and it would be more of a drag to their economy than anything else. Place looks like a hellhole even for Russian standards. :hmm:

So backwards they just successfully couped their much bigger geopolitical adversary. I think it's about time we stop belittling Russians and start realizing that they're waging a war against us.
Nonsense. We are in an alliance with Eurasia and at war with Eastasia.

Didnt Russia solve the birth rate problem a few years ago?
Around now they should be suffering the worst effects of the trough

You lot sure love to show how ignorant you are about the former Union...
About Belarus... ever heard of the Union State?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_State
The Union State, also referred to as the Union State of Russia and Belarus, is a politico-economic union consisting of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
As for Khazakstan and the others... not paying attention to the Eurasian Economic Union?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_Economic_Union
The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is an economic union of states located primarily in northern Eurasia. A treaty aiming for the establishment of the EAEU was signed on 29 May 2014 by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, and came into force on 1 January 2015. Treaties aiming for Armenia's and Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union were signed on 9 October and 23 December 2014, respectively. Armenia's accession treaty came into force on 2 January 2015. Kyrgyzstan's accession treaty came into effect on 6 August 2015.[10][11] It participated in the EAEU from the day of its establishment as an acceding state.
With plans for a single currency for some time now
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/putin-suggests-single-currency-for-eurasian-economic-union-10123676.html
The states that make up the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) should adopt a single currency, Russian president Vladimir Putin has said.
Mr Putin said a common currency could help members of the bloc fend off economic crisis.
"The time has come to start thinking about forming a currency union," Mr Putin said during a press conference on the Kazakh capital of Astana.

Who is this addressed to? I think most of us have expected Belarus to be annexed by Russia for years. It is far more surprising this has not happened yet.
And the close ties to Kazakhstan have been address in this thread.
Yeah, I think we all know about these unions.
They're reasons against Russia taking over those countries.

Agreed on this. Russia isn't done with meddling in the former republics and this same tactic seems to be their likely course of action.
