Now it is time to strike FORTH and win vast hoards of loot in the dungeons of Usury Quest!
If you are not aware of my heroic quest you can see the first great adventure in the investing thread:
QuoteOk so I am asking around and I am told the most hands on low risk-ish short term investiness entertainment for my money is peer to peer lending. Like Lending Club or something which apparently has been a thing for awhile but I had never heard of it before. Is that better? I am thinking of putting in a hundred bucks a month to fool around with and posting an AAR around the first of the month here so you can all laugh at/cheer me as I goof around in the world of high stakes video games.
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Forig00.deviantart.net%2Fd4e7%2Ff%2F2012%2F247%2F6%2Fb%2Fand_it_s_gone_by_celeith-d5div3y.jpg&hash=709a69ab463cb23282fcfdb3b8b30773a257e43d)
QuoteOk so yesterday it was time to start my grand adventure in the deep dungeons of LENDING CLUB. Oh what vile monsters will devour my soul in this abyss of usurious darkness?
Alright so here we go:
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC1_zpscge01vpy.jpg&hash=bb7bd5aa9fb63f04528d12811ce988632cca6951)
Hell yeah! Viper can tell you I always play on hard mode. Also I am only investing $100.00 so might as well.
Speaking of $100.00 I must arm myself with my noobie sword.
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC4_zpsiw2lkcby.jpg&hash=44930523be75f7b519419a9fd1bf6435f8a6f1e9)
Now to slay the...um wait what?
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC3_zpsbzwbjiiw.jpg&hash=a6d78610e1df77760f99d790ab29eb27b2f1db35)
Friday? Ok damn I will come back on Friday.
Ok so today I load it up all excited to get in there and start battling the noobie notes of doom but...
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC2_zpsg0e1avbi.jpg&hash=d2ab38488f79362539431b087bc870f12be76140)

I will tell Total Biscuit to do a very harsh review of this game.
Anyway so...I guess I will start this all next week then. At least me losing all my money immediately will not happen!
Alright so now you know what I am doing! ONWARDS!
Ok so now I have my fully armed and operational newbie $100.00.
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC12_zps3b2u2xex.jpg&hash=bb80ac7dde577dba27c753abf9996d8e79e9fe78)
Aha! Now which newbie note should I do battle with first? Hmmmm.
Ok so this is how this is going to work. I invest in loans at $25.00 a pop entitling me to a tiny bit of the monthly payment the borrower makes on the note. Got it?
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC8_zpserxoyy9k.jpg&hash=0be04892b05c99eec768174fba055e1f9a7b6e19)
Alright! Ok that is enough Zelda for a bit.
Let us venture into the first dungeon:
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC7_zpsjzmpzw14.jpg&hash=f27a011e970b84881fe180d6a07cca7797ff2c28)
Which is what it looks like in Everquest.
But here it looks like this:
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC13_zpsaekuavdg.jpg&hash=bfac9360e53f7fd7ebaeca222db2ba66e1c4a388)
Just like Cave Rats these notes have low hit points, poor armor, and do little damage...er...I mean they have low rates, short terms, and are for low amounts.
I tell you I was tempted a bit to venture down a bit deeper and lusted for a fat 9% rate to gather in a mighty $0.75 a month. A princely sum indeed. But the dangers were too much:
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC6_zpswjnou8o4.jpg&hash=54eb4267923c544abe4fb5e9b89e3ccd3dedc78c)
TEH HORRAH! So no I will level up a bit in the newbie zone.
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC14_zpsh8pxiwvp.jpg&hash=e6366dfe7c8d14f9b9a933f0c033faf7f8cc1d1d)
Ah yeah! Four percent projected profit baby!
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Framonacreel.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fblogs%2FCalvinMoney.jpg&hash=ea8198cafcad1989cb5dfb6e5abe3052871ca5e3)
With such high rolling stakes I am sure you are all riveted :P
Anyway now I have to wait for these notes to be funded and then I start making the phat lewts. Tune in next month as I venture deeper into the dark dungeons of Usury Quest in search of further death and glory.

Nah. I was going to do something like that but DGuller told me I would be broke in like 2 seconds. So instead I am doing the Peer to Peer lending thing.

I think that is part of the fee Lending Club collects from you
Interesting.
How does it work, how do you gain profit? What if the loan isn't repaid?
Quote from: Drakken on August 13, 2016, 01:08:11 PM
Interesting.
How does it work,
Somebody wants some money so they apply to Lending Club for a loan. If they are approved Lending Club sends it to their investors, me and other richer people, to fund the loan. All of Lending Club's money is made via the transaction fees.
Quotehow do you gain profit?
I own a certain percentage of the loan so I get a certain percentage of the monthly payment. In the case of the 5,000.00 loan I own .5% of the monthly payment in both principal and interest. If the loan actually goes its entire 36 month term I will end up with...eh...something like an 8% total profit I think on 5.32% annual interest. But if they pay it off early then well I make less than that.
QuoteWhat if the loan isn't repaid?
Then I lose some percentage of $25.00 :weep: though Lending Club will send their collectors of DOOM after them I think.
Hence why I was so conservative in my initial loans.
Money lending?
But....
What about your immortal soul ?

Valmy spent all his loot on a pair of hookers.

The song I sing shall tell the tale of a cold and usurious day
So our hero ventured forth once more into the breach determined to lay waste to his foes. After the battle last month it was time to collect all the loot!

That's right baby! 50 whole cents! The payments are not due until the 15th but one guy paid around the 30th of August so I guess he has bimonthly payments? But wait 36 payments of 50 cents is only 18 dollars but 72 payments would be 36 dollars which strikes me as more than 7.59%. What the hell is going on out there? It even seemed to be all principal. How does that work? This is supposed to be Usury Quest not Free Money Quest!
Oh well I trust this evil soulless corporation to stay on the level.
So it is time for me to venture once more into the deep dark dungeon. Huh hardly any 36 month A notes today...but fortunately I have a backup plan. I will pick really small loans. Nobody is going to blow their credit and go bankrupt on a tiny loan. Surely not.
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi93.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl58%2FValmy77%2FLC16_zpsse598el2.jpg&hash=90948063d0d625cc9e561e684f20741fce110f6a)
Really? 'Other'? What kind of bizarre thing does somebody borrow $1,000 for? Just need to put that grand on the Bears game?
Anyway for DEATH AND GLORY! Or should I say:

Death and Drek! Did anybody catch the reference to this in the Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter? It was a very specific Easter Egg for people who played both The Bard's Tale 2 and IWD. That very small sample size included me so I got a chuckle.
So behold the portfolio of POWAH:

It's going to compound over time.
I wonder if the website doesn't work like this:
-New people sign up. They test the waters with $100 to make $0.50 interest. The website holds their $100, and pays the principal and $0.50 interest on time.
-The new people get more confident. They up the investment to $200 for $1.00 interest. The website holds the money and again pays principal and interest on time.
-The new people think, "wow this really works. We could really make money off this thing." They invest $10,000. Goodbye.

If you go to Holdings/Notes and click on the status of a note, you'll be able to see payment history.

But what next? How cans't thou further thine progress in mastering the virtues? Get thee to the Seer!
Great Hawkwind shall see into thine inner being and find thee worthy!

The Seer hast great wisdom indeed!
But as thou doest know each great virtue of the land has a vile dungeon that represents its antithesis. Horrors that must be conquered both symbolically and literally. Behold a place of corruption and evil where heroes are made or broken:

Oh hell one freaking A note on the entire system? And it is for 24 grand? Oh well. I don't really get why some guys get such low rates and others get much higher ones even though their FICO scores are similar.

A $5,000 B loan, a $5,000 C loan, and a $7,500 B loan. I vetted them all pretty thoroughly so hopefully...there will be much profit for thee Usurar!
Behold thy gains in the darkness of Dungeon Default!
