Alright, we obviously have a lot of nominations for "the most stubborn motherfucker who won't change his mind on anything, no matter what, but just keeps arguing and misrepresenting the other side" here on languish.
What I'm curious about is which posters do you think are most likely to change their position when faced with a reasonable argument or new evidence?
This thread is for nominations, I'll do a poll in a while.
So... I ask you, who on languish is the most ready to abandon a position on reasonable terms?
Berkut
Berkut.
It's tough to say, because we have some very nice posters who rarely engage in any heated arguments any longer. So to have any legitimacy I think the poster has to be someone who engages in debates.
Also, we have people like yourself, Jacob (and I like to think myself) who consistently take a very pleasant tone in argueing - few ad homs or the like, but yet still rarely change their opinions.
For "most likely to change their opinion when presented with alternate evidence"... I think I'll go with Admiral Yi. He is quick to abandon a point if it's not supported.
That is unless someone can convince me otherwise.
Lol.
:punk:
I've never presented reasonable arguments so can't really say.
Of course, there is a big difference between "agreeable" and "willing to change their mind on topics".
I don't think I am particularly agreeable, but I am quite willing to change my mind on topics.

Abandoning a point is not the same as changing your mind though...

You've probably changed/evolved your position on the left-right spectrum more than most posters.
edit:
on topic, I'd say Zanza, Meri, Syt and a few others.

Yeah, that is true.
Which is one thing that is handy about basing your positions on core ideas rather than lining up according to some position on the left-right spectrum.
I'll go with Valmy.
Most of us, though, are stubborn assholes. It's like a club for them. :D

I dunno. I've found that I'd probably be considered much lot more agreeable if I abandoned my core ideas, and just believed whatever the DNC told me to. <_<
Of those who posted so far in this thread, I would say The Brain. I also agree with Valmy. Possibly also Caliga.
These are the people who (almost) never piss me off.
For the record, I don't think agreeable is (just) the opposite of stubborn. It also has to include, to me, qualities such as mellow, having a sense of humour and not being abrasive. I have changed my mind on many things on Languish but I would not consider myself agreeable.

You've become a helluvalot more agreeable since your time sitting in the corner.
I mean in the sense of being much less of a dickhead.

Yeah but I am conciously trying and besides only because I am more agreeable it does not mean I am objectively agreeable. :P

This kind of formulation is biased against people that are always right to begin with, and thus have no need to agree with opposing arguments.

If you see something that looks like a reasonable argument, it probably isn't. Becuase after all, this is the internet, and therefore the Bayesian prior probability of actually seeing a reasonable argument is vanishingly small.
If presented with new evidence, one should of course reconsider one's views. But then again, if new evidence is coming in, shouldn't one say it appears the evidence is in flux and thus hold to one's position until all the facts are in?
I think we should have an argument over the meaning of the word "agreeable". It's the Languish way.
This thread is turning us all to gays and yes-men.

I agree.
Oh wait, I don't.
:P
Actually, the Languish way would be for the winner of the "Agreeable" contest to engage, the very same day, in a no-holds-barred knock-down argument that causes at least two other posters to ragequit. :P
All this agreement sickens me. :x
Cal would be a good choice, but I don't think he really participates in arguments much anymore.
Guller is agreeable in the sense that he's a good sport when made fun of. HVC too. Not the thread question, but thought I'd put that out there anyway.
Valmy maybe, though I've found him pretty tenacious at times. Perhaps "least stubborn" is more apt than "most agreeable". :hmm:
I agree with you all.

At times I would like to, but I simply don't have the time anymore to consistently keep up with Languish, and it's kind of hard to participate in a debate when you don't have much time to keep up with the conversation. Lately all I do is work (which I'm doing right now, for example). At least the company sends me nice places and pays for me to get drunk, though. :)
That's no joke. Languish is at its busiest when its population of lazy motherfuckers are supposed to generating shareholder value.
