As most of you know, the horror of the Steam summer sale is on us, which will force the less disciplined of us to buy PC games. What I don't understand is the cards. What are the cards for? I don't understand, and I'm scared. :(
I'd just ignore them. Some lame thing Steam started up recently.
Is anything good on sale? I'm hoping for sales on Bioshock Infinite, the Skyrim DLC, and a couple of shooters I can't think of at the moment.
Skyrim (and all DLC) is on sale for the next 4 hours

No.
EVERY SINGLE THING (except EU IV, of course) on my wishlist is on sale. But the store is experiencing "heavy load". I'll give you a heavy load, Steam Store  :perv:
Skyrim is still way too expensive. Maybe next year.
Thinking of getting CoJ:Gunslinger.
When it was 35 bucks earlier today, I don't think that it was particularly expensive.
It's over 10$.
You could be a gentleman & gift it to me. It's the classy thing to do on Steam.
Why would I give you a gift?
I will give Garbon a gift.

I can gift Grey Fox a Card.
Yay!
I don't get the cards either, Raz.
Well, I'm not actually sure how to do that. I sent a Friend Request.
Of the ones on sale today, I already own the ones I want.
And of the four games on flash sale: I have all of them.
And I'm not interested in Borderlands 2.
Defiance being sub-$15 seems like a pretty good deal. Trigger: pulled.

QuoteQ: I AM POOR AND DON'T WANT TO SPEND A BUNCH OF MONEY WAAAAAAH.
A: OK, then don't do it.
Q: BUT I STILL WANT TO AND HONESTLY WILL PROBABLY BE FINE MONETARILY I JUST SAY THIS BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE DOES.
A: OK, then do it.
Q: BUT I ACTUALLY HAVE MOST OF THESE GAMES BECAUSE THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN IN COUNTLESS OTHER SALES.
A: OK, then don't do it.
Q: I AM THE ONE HUMAN WHO HASN'T PLAYED BIOSHOCK INFINITE YET.
A: OK, then do it.
Q: I JUST BOUGHT IT. WHY DO I STILL FEEL EMPTY INSIDE.
A: Probably because there haven't been a lot of great triple-A games on PC recently and most of the major indie releases launch cheap anyway. Oh, and Steam trading cards are kind of a boring gimmick. Also, because the most exciting event of your summer is a videogame sale.
Q: OH. BUT MORE SALES WILL MAKE ME HAPPY, RIGHT?
A: GOG and Amazon both had big ones. Arguably better than Steam's.
Q: COOL! THIS WILL SURELY MAKE ALL OF MY TROUBL–
A: You missed them. Well, I guess Amazon's is still going, but it's US-only and ends on July 14th.
Q: OH.
A: Yeah.
Q: I THINK I WANT A HUG.
A: No. But anyway, don't you have a million-billion games backlogged from other Steam sales anyway? And look, I don't know, Just Cause 2 is super great. It's practically free at this point. Antichamber's also magnificent, and you know what? You may as well just wheel your cart up to the indie section and go nuts, because everything there is running about with only itsy bitsy price tags to cover up their gamey bits.
Q: BUT I'M POOR AND DON'T WANT TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY
A: OK, we're done here.
Walking Dead: purchased.
I'm not a big fan of the zombie genre, but I saw a bunch of you people raving about this game, so I figured what the fuck.
 The Walking Dead is ANOTHER game you can't save?
Did some law get passed that made it illegal to save PC games on demand?
So what just crashed the Steam Store?
Some % off change. ARMA II went from 50 to 66%, My guess : Valve.
Prison architect is frustrating fun. Beta so has some word glitches like dead visitors sliding off the morticians slab only to be proper back up by the guard. Repeat.
Bought Deadlight. I really liked Prince of Persia back in the day.
Is Sins of a Solar Empire worth it?
Trinity?

Purchased The Walking Dead since every one won't shut the fuck up about it. Playing through episode 1 and it's okay. I don't particularly care for the control scheme. It's an okay story so far.

Hey Rebellion is 75% off over the next 48hours.
Dishonored and it's main DLC 'The Knife of Dunwall' for less than $14? I'll take it.
Thinking of nabbing the massive Dawn of War pack and Expeditions: Conquistador. Thoughts on either option? I remember people playing Dawn of War II (I played the first one) a while ago, but don't remember a final verdict. I hadn't heard of Expeditions: Conquistador till I was browsing around the rpg section yesterday. It looks pretty interesting. A hex based rpg type format.
CC was a proponent of Expeditions:Conquistador. He posted about it somewhere in this subforum.
On a different note, I didn't realize Castle Crashers was still a 15 dollar game. Came out forever ago on console.
Destructoid had a decent review of Conquistadors. Supposedly it's a good RPG with some interface/gameply tedium (lots of walking, inventory management).
I picked up Ace Combat Assault Horizon. What a silly but fun game.
Wargame: Airland Battle is 50% off. Is it worth picking up?
Well I've wasted enough money.

I've logged a ton of time into it. I really enjoy it. An RTS with actual strategy in it with a vaguely-Grognardy-but-not-really cold war exterior.
CoJ:Gunslinger is pretty good game.
Fallout 3 and Fallout:NV for $2.49 each.
Star Wolves for $2.50 is worth it, IMO.

Yeah, Expeditions is good fun. And a fair amount of replayability since your decisions in each interaction determine the story line.
Serious Sam package is off 75%, for under 9 bucks you can get the whole package. I've been waiting for a while for these mindless shooters to go on sale. And I paid using the money I earned selling trading cards I earned buying two or three games, voting in the community choice and playing some games I already own. ^_^

You can earn stuff with them, mostly Badges and TF2 items.
Yay. More hats.
It's akin to Xbox live gamerscore really. A gimmick that you can atleast make some money out of if you don't care about badges or your steam level.

If you like obtuse interfaces and gameplay design where more than half way through you're suddenly stuck because you didn't level the right skills. Still, great game nevertheless.
Dishonored feels like game casserole. There's a lot of stuff I like in there, but it's kind of inelegantly mashed together. Also, the game world just doesn't really gel, even if I think the stuff they've done with the engine is really damned impressive.

I've noticed when looking at what they have that there are a lot more shitty games out there than I'd realized.
Shitty game notwithstanding, Usually steam sales are full of 75%, 80% deals. Not anymore, it's all 33% & 50% crap.
Steam sales are not for spending 20$ on a game, they are to spend 5$ on games you'll never play.
I wanted Van Helsing but not for anything under 75% off.
I'm still seeing a lot of things for 75% off. Also I noticed that they seem to change up the values at various points. Expeditions:Conquistador was something like 50% but then just this morning, if it had been voted for by the community, it would have been something like 75-80% off.

Yes, that's how the dailies/community/flash sales work. Every is on a sale at some % off, if it becomes daily/community/flash than that is the best deal you'll get over the course of the sale.
That's why the rule is too not buy anything that isn't DCF unless it's the last day.
I don't really know what you are whining about then.
Of the 10 daily deals, 4 are under 75% and none are over 75%!
That's my complaint.
omg!
Amazon and GMG and to some extent GOG have stolen a lot of thunder from these seasonal Steam sales, at least for me. Every steam sale now I feel like "Eh, I could get a similar or lower price at another vendor", so if I don't need to play it ABSOLUTELY RIGHT NOW then I just wait.

I just saw that Infestation is on today's sales.
DO. NOT. BUY.
It's the infamous The War Z (a horrid Day Z rip off), renamed, and with metacritic score (19/100) removed.
I will have no considerabale free time for gaming until EU4 is released (and probably not much even around those days), yet I am strangely tempted to pick up Far Cry 3 with 40% off. Is it: worth it?

I have been eyeing both that as well as the original Far Cry, which is like $5 or something.
Far Cry is great. Far Cry 3 is good for some entertainment, it starts out pretty great but then they are unable to keep up the quality and it gets retarded.
NB I did finish Far Cry 3, and I rarely play shooters to the end. But I was disappointed by the second half of the game.

well you got missions. Like passenger trains, freight operations, shuffling cars around in the railyard, that kind of stuff.
And there is an extensive scoring system monitoring everything you do. Like breaking too heavy with passengers, delays, speeding, etc.
For me, it's good for some rare "zen" gaming, but I imagine you must be a real railroad fan to stick with it for a long period of time.
That's what I figure. Kind of like Euro Truck Sim 2 in that regard (though if you zone out it's easy to miss that exit you have to take or crash because the passenger cars won't let you switch lanes even though you switched on the turn signal half a km ago).
Still, I'm a completist when it comes to DLC in games DLC, so I stay way clear of Train Sim.

Same here; capped off at Dawnguard and Dragonborn.
Last day, with the games that had summer sale cards going back on sale one more time.
Overall a rather lackluster affair this time around; but that's probably because I binged on previous sales and picked up other games when they were the weekend/midweek/daily special.
I want the Skyrm DLC but I have only played Skyrim for a few hours so I think I will wait for the next sale.
Or the one after that.
The cards are good. Gave me 2 dollars from people wanting to get more steam level, which doesn't seem to be good for anything.
Still, I bought a few games I may not play, but also Bioshock Infinite, which so far has been spectacular. No save on demand, though, so it sucks.
