Often I'll own a game, and just won't be able to get into it. I want to like it, but for some reason it never clicks. Sometimes I'll get into it later on, sometimes not. Anyone else have this problem?
For example: Bastion. I bought Bastion and tried a few times at it, but never could get the controls right. Never could get into that game.
Crusader Kings, Civ 5 (vanilla), Morrowind...
Victoria, Victoria II, Hearts of Iron, HoI II, EU3, Oblivion, Yakuza 3, Resistance 3, Mafia II, God of War.
Civ 5 - but it might have been more I can't get into it again
HOI 3, Victoria 2 - with a lot of Paradox games that aren't CK or EU I feel like I just don't have the desire or patience to learn the detailed mechanics.
Elemental (thanks a lot, Tamas)
A lot of times, games just aren't complex enough in the areas I want them to be to satisfy me. Maybe I'm realistic, or maybe I've just been gaming too long and have unrealistically high expectations at this point.
EU: Rome - and I love anything Roman...
Civ V - this is getting to feel like Star Trek - give it a rest already
Any MMO once you reach max lvl - boredom central
Dragon Age II - even though I adored the 1st one
G.
EU3
Victoria 2
Pride of Nations
Except for CK2, I stopped buying games after those three.

Elder Scrolls IV, I think, the one before Skyrim. I tried&tried&tried, but I never enjoyed it.

Dragon Age: Origins
HoI3
To that list I would also add all the Elder Scroll games and Skyrim.
On top of my head.
Starcraft
Fall Out 3
Any Paradox title(I have CK, Victoria, EU 1 & 2 & HOI)
Metro
GTA 3 & Up
3D ruined everything.
I tried to play GTA2 and couldn't handle the topdown.
Got another one : Mass Effect
Of games I have actually tried to get into:
Bioshock
Oblivion
Bastion
Baldur's Gate
Torchlight II
I couldn't get into Baldur's Gate either. I think it is probably a great game, but maybe its too dated to enjoy for a first time play through. Or maybe I just don't like the real time battle. I would much prefer turn based like Fallout, but that might not have been too slow paced for this type of game.
I enjoy the storylines (from Wikipedia :P ) but I wasn't able to get into the gameplay. Sad.

Well you're just not human.
Totally Morrowind. Everyone always says its so good...it really isn't.
Diablo I guess too. It has all its emphasis on the bad side of RPGs and totally neglects the good side.
Recently Arkham Assylum too.

It took me a couple times but eventually I got it. Exploring all the ancient ruins and trying to piece together the plot, which I am still not totally sure about, was so much fun it almost made up for the horribly unbalanced combat system and tedious leveling system. At least you could train levels so it wasn't as suicide inducing as Oblivion.

It really, really is.
The problem's not Morrowind. It's you.

Did you play the original Diablo or Diablo II when they were released or is this based on more recent experience with Diablo III?
The reason I ask is back in the day when Diablo was first released it was incredibly addictive for most people. Looking back on it all now it is fair comment to wonder why we thought it was so great but at the time, compared to what else was available, it was an incredible time sink.
Life.

played them a little. My roommates at time loved them but they never grabbed me.
I tried at demo of III but again wasn't enticed by it.
Starcraft. Boring click fest
Any MMO. What the fuck is this shit? 15 bucks a month to be annoyed? Pass.
World of Tanks. Virgins with guns. Fuck that shit.
Forza and the Sony nerd car game. I want to powerslide through the other cars. Not tweak my tires. Boring nerd shit.
Diablo was way to much of a click fest for me. I tried to like it, I really did. I think I eventually beat the first one, but it was a chore. Many times I'll try a game, shelf it and they try again a year or two later and love it.

I think Careers took that concept and made a much more enjoyable game out of it.

Yeah, although in the case of Rome it wasn't so much that the mechanics were hard to get into, it was that the gameplay was so bland.
And there are whole genres I just don't have much use for: shooters, platform jumpers, CRPGs other than the Elder Scrolls series (and even there, I was never really into any of them except for Daggarfall).

Its the base gameplay/controls which utterly puts me off. The right button menu and left button to do stuff thing is a pain.

If those passive activities that all involve observing count as "doing" then I'd counter that all require an individual to put in effort to remain attentive.

The Republic was aweful. That game really pissed me off when the creators wouldn't even patch it. Fortunately they went out of business.

Yeah but I really liked the idea behind it and kept trying to make it work. Fail. :(
If we're talking Republic: The Revolution - the big issue with that game is that they took a great concept and then executed it poorly. Great example of a game that should have ditched 3D in favor of more development time spent on mechanics.

So what doesn't require effort then?
Never could get into any FPS or RTS.
Starting to get why so many people picked HoI 3. It's almost impossible to play.

I found that game extremely addictive. Course, I played it with a mouse.
Any Battlefield game post BF 2.
Any MMO other than WoW (not because they aren't good...I like WoW and don't have the time or energy to start over a new MMO).

I kept building ICs too late when I should have been mass-building infantry reserves. Only problem is that the UK lands an invasion of France in 1942, so the war is over by the time I'm half-way through Poland.
How do you move HQs across continents? Confused.
