Out of curiosity, outside of reading only some Languish posts (because we have actually talked about her quite a bit in many threads throughout the years here) what contact with world outside your room do you have?

Quote from: HVC on Today at 11:19:22 AMShe's been a mainstay in the public sphere for two decades. Even tangentially if you know other artists, like Kanye, you know about her. She's inserted herself into separate fields like sports, and the like. Even world news there was her Austrian concert that was canceled due to terrorist threats. You'd have to be in a very insulated bubble, or putting us on. Neither option is flattering :D
Mystery solved then, I don't know of any other artists either, I don't follow sports except for auto racing, and I don't follow Austrian current events.  I do know of Kanye a little bit, IIRC he had gone off the deep end and/or supports Trump, but frankly I wouldn't recognize him if I had seen him.  First and last time I've seen him was when I happened to watch a Punk'd episode for some random reason.  I guess some people just have other interests.

Quote from: crazy canuck on Today at 12:02:36 PMI have not heard the quote you posted (thankfully) and yeah with that understanding of what he was really saying, Musk  just made a good target for the people world wide who adore her.

To be clear, that is my interpretation of Musk's message shared upthread, not something he wrote verbatim.

Thanks Minsky - I was considering GeForceNow now because I'd like to have access to Steam as well. For GeForceNow does it matter at all whether I use some random old PC, a low-spec Steam Deck, or - as you say - direct on TV with an app (because I'm thinking of getting a new TV to replace my 720p from 2005 or whenever)?

Looking at GeForceNow it has a list of supported games. If I have a game on Steam that's not listed as supported, does that mean I can't play it?

Re: Console Wars I think MSFT is winning because I think they're going to come out ahead in terms of the "Stream Games via our service" model. I expect they'll be the top dog in the race to become the Netflix/ Prime/ whoever of gaming. Though maybe it doesn't matter what hardware I buy now, even if I'm correct.

Quote from: DGuller on Today at 10:51:58 AMI think his offer was to inseminate her, although it's not clear.

Then that is delusional.  You have already said you don't know anything about Taylor Swift, but she is currently dating one of America's most eligible bachelors and a Super Bowl champion from last year.  I'm pretty sure she's gonna pick her boyfriend over some overweight, frumpy, slightly insane, male, pretending he's an alpha.

I agree with DGuller that that was the intention, and I agree with you that it's delusional and will add that it's an expression of the ragining misogyny of Elon and his fellow travelers. Thus creepy and - I hope - somewhat motivating for decent people to turn out against Trump. I kind of imagine that "hur hur shut up woman, I'll fuck you that'll shut you up" comes across as kind of abrasive and derogatory to Swift fans - even those who may not have been overly interested in politics previously.

The Tsarist secret police was truly a bizarre animal. There was a big problem, foe example, of government officials being assassinated but what was weird was all those terrorist groups doing the assassinating were heavily infiltrated and compromised by government agents. It was bizarre. Like maybe use all your secret agents to destroy these networks and stop the assassinations?

Quote from: Josquius on September 10, 2024, 03:52:15 PMMakes sense

I can just see how this pain would go though. Musk recommends absolutely gutting the government - trump shows how moderate and sensible he is by only brutalising it half as much

He'll point to Twitter as a shining example of how well that would go, too.

Quote from: Josquius on Today at 05:26:30 AMIs it just Britain or is ita global thing that boys clothes are really depressing?
It's all black, brown, beige, camouflage green... If there's a primary colour it's really dull and muted.
And I'm not talking adult fashion here. It's clothes for little boys. 3 year olds.
They want bright colours and pictures of animals.
But to get that you have to go to the girls section and try and find something without too many obvious frills.

I don't recall having any problems getting bright blues and reds and so forth for my boys. Might have an issue with pink or pastels but not bright primary colors.

So yeah - I don't remember having any issue with bright colours for little boys clothes (with the proviso my youngest turns 11 next month, so it's been a little while).

But I know I'm not the first to note that it's kind of weird how absurdly gendered little kids clothes are.  Like girls clothes will invariably be pink, or pastels, probably with frills - and that's even before you get to whatever characters or images are on them.

I know. But it's fun and cute. There are plenty of gender neutral stuff as well.

But I let me wife and mother in law indulge in all the cutesy stuff.

What kind of weirds me out is the cutesy yet quasi sexualized stuff. Like having a shirt for you baby boy saying he is a babe magnet and so forth. And it only gets weirder but I forget the specifics. I was probably too traumatized.

Quote from: Barrister on Today at 11:13:11 AMWhen my kids were younger we wound up colour-coding a lot of things for them - which included clothes.  One kid liked blue, second kid liked red - so when the third kid came along we just chose green as his colour.
Like the Chipmunks?

Netflix did a Chipmunks revival a few years ago, the guys latched on to it precisely because there was a chipmunk associated with each of their colours.
