Depends on how insane the Republicans go. But voting for the least insane should not be confused with support. I would certainly never vote for conspiracy theory nutjobs in the primaries.

What about the counter-argument - that Sanders needs to quit instead "for the good of the country" because the longer this goes on the more it hurts Clinton?

The things that don't work both ways are 1) Hillary's pledged delegates, who are concrete facts and 2) the relative accuracy or inaccuracy of public polling in predicting voting.  Bernie can't get what he wants with a 2 point advantage in head to heads; he needs like 20 points to even start talking about it.

Why are Clinton's huge unfavorability numbers Sanders' problem? He has nothing to do with them. Her crap record speaks for itself. It's not like she did him any favors, so he doesn't owe her anything.

I think Sanders' point this election was to nudge the country leftwards. He's a smart guy, he knows how primaries work and the writing was on the wall since day 1. That Clinton hasn't clinched the nomination on may 12th to a 80 year old socialist that wasn't even in the party a year ago is telling. Sure, Bernie is honest, his message resonates etc, but mostly it's that Clinton is that terrible.

Oh come on pal that is not how it works. Politicians do not drop out of elections because they owe something to the other guy or because they want to do somebody a favor. This was never said so why pose the question? And yes she has a record of compromising sometimes voting with the opposition, something clearly on the way out as America scrambles to commit suicide.

He has not really nudged the country leftwards so much as taken advantage of its stratification. Clinton is terrible because she represents the old establishment which is being blamed for all the supposed problems...like Mexicans being here and temporary job problems created by our free trade policies which are helping to enrich the world and raise hundreds of millions out of desperate poverty...but are causing a few issues temporarily. Rapid changes in technology are going to make alot of this moot anyway. But sure lets rip apart our country with nutjobery in the meantime.

But Max's argument wasn't based on anyone "owing" anyone else.  It was based on "the good of the country".

If Clinton is that terrible, then why is she handily beating Sanders?  Both in pledged delegates (the kind Sanders cares about) and in total votes?

If "the good of the country" means that Trump must lose, then surely that means Sanders must drop out and consolidate around Clinton?
