So is it gonna be Cruz vs Hillary now? Or will the establishment crown somebody else when the convention rolls around? I'm completely at a loss about how is this supposed to work now. Despite picking up a lot of steam, it's not like Cruz will be able to command anything near a majority either.

I somewhat suspect that Cruz will command a majority on the second ballot.

On the first ballot everyone votes the way they were pledged--no one gets a majority--that is predictable. On the second vote the delegates start to be able to vote the way they really want to--and it seems that Cruz has been organized enough to make sure his delegates really support him, and a healthy number of Trump delegates support him too.

There are also a healthy number of delegates reserved for the RNC (about 7%) and presumably also a healthy number of RNCish delegates among the general delegate population, so if they unite behind someone they may also become a force that could give it to someone other than Cruz.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Yeah, I am thinking Trump will get the plurality on the first ballot, and lost a shit ton on the second.  Enough for Cruz to win on?  Hmmm, maybe...if Kasich sticks it out, there may be a sizable sympathy vote there, just to see how he fares.  Probably ends on ballot three or four.

lol

Laugh it up, come November your choice will be between a habitually dishonest democrat who hold you in contempt and Hillary Clinton.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Theoretically, could Kasich throw in with Trump and have his guys vote for him on the first ballot in exchange for VP? Or do the same for Cruz if he's close enough for Kasich's votes to get him over the hump?

Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.

I don't think Kasich is interested in VP.

And if he wants to have a good base for running against Hillary in 2020, I thinking playing second-fiddle to Trump or Cruz in the GE would only hurt him.

CountDeMoney

Neither one of those goofs are going to pick anybody that ran earlier in this race against them.

Tonitrus

Kasich would actually be good, moderating, Yankee pick for Cruz.  But as you said, neither are interested.

CountDeMoney

Nope...not at all.  And Cruz?  For all his obstruction, his alienation of his fellow Senators, his wars on everything from Planned Parenthood to the Export-Import Bank to immigration to Obamacare:  whenever he has had the opportunity, he has taken advantage of every procedural tool in the book to do everything in pissing off everybody, GOP and Democrat alike from Congress to the White House, by doing everything from forcing votes on Saturdays to shutting down the government.

And after all that bullshit, what happens in Cleveland when all that insanity gets rewarded with the party nomination? He's going to double down on all that crap.  Maybe Issa, maybe even Paul--but he's definitely going to take a like-minded fuckstick goofball shitfuck as his running mate.

Trump?  Who the fuck knows.  Tom Brady.  Joy Behar.  Tom Cruise.  Kathie Lee Gifford.
