Taking a break from the stress of slaughtering orks I've reinstalled Euro Truck Simulator 2 for something a bit more zen, i.e. driving from A to B while listening to the radio. Looking forward to "American Truck Simulator" coming out next year and hoping that it's as enjoyable (even though they cover only California at release, and will add Arizona as an add on).

While the map is scaled down (going from Kiel to Hamburg takes 5-10 minutes instead of an hour) and cities are sparsely modeled (a few faceless industrial streets on the outskirts with a landmark or two as backdrop), the game is more about capturing the feeling of overland driving in its various locations.

Okay, you Europeans are really weird.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Yeah if I wanted to do that, I might just get in my car and take a roadtrip. :hmm:

Not that I'm not glad you had fun, Syt, but I don't get that.

I don't get it. So, like, do you get to run over people?

I got a copy of Grimrock II.  Still considering Shadow of Mordor.

No worries. It's just a nice way of relaxing. Like other people might use a flight sim, or a train sim. Hell, I even get the appeal that OMSI (bus sim in 1980s Berlin) has to people. Tim Stone explains it better than I:

If I could hate the French for WWI more than I already did, I do now.

You are aware they made the game and not the war right?

So, I just saw Darklands (for Windows and Mac) on Steam.  :secret:

I am somewhat reluctant to try it. On one hand, it used to be one of my favourite games ever. On the other, I fear it may not have stood the test of time. I didn't remember the graphics was so attrocious.

I think GoG actually has it on sale at the moment. I did an AAR here at some point.

Jagged Alliance: Flashback.

A very good, very different take on retro turn-based gaming than XCOM. Definitely up there with Wasteland 2 for crowdfunded quality projects. Stinking hard, as JA was back in the day. I like it.

I'm taking Fallout: New Vegas for another spin, this time with a bunch of Nexus mods.  It's got almost Skyrim-level graphics now, what with the texture packs and sky/weather crap I installed.

Dreamfall Chapters. I was expecting another disappointment, but the writing (at least in the first episode) has improved markedly from Dreamfall, and the puzzles have been decent so far.

Played a couple of game of Ultimate General: Gettysburg with Lettuce. Naturally I played the Union and he the Confederacy.  It was a lot of fun (even if it was 5 in the morning).

My Skyrim setup broke again so I had to remove everything and I'm rebuilding from the ground up yet again... Good practice though - learned lots of things.

Anyhoo... I bought Endless Legends and played several hours yesterday.  I must say I'm quite impressed with it.  Particularly the interface - very sleek and well designed - all the information you require is 2 clicks away at most.  They seem to have integrated many concepts from other similar games into a coherent whole.  And the map if frakking gorgeous!  As for the gameplay - well you can see immediately that there are 2-3 DLCs already in the pipe because the factions are pretty bland so 1 DLC for that - the tech tree is the same for all the races - however on the plus side many of those techs are often dependent on conditions on the map (presence of rivers and such) which is much more realistic than generic bonuses.  So another DLC will no doubt be the map editor and also possibly a scenario editor.  The quests are divided between the main quest for each faction and generic quests available to all.

It does have quite a bit of atmosphere but I feel there's more in store - at price of course.

Overall at 37.5$ Can it's not a waste of money.
