Quote from: Syt on May 29, 2025, 08:28:28 AMI think one of the design decisions was that resources are finite and the end game is essentially the bronze age collapse. Haven't played myself, but I guess the idea is to hold back the inevitable?

That sounds pretty good actually

As said it's definitely realistic, it makes sense.
But it's presented in a wrapper of a normal total war game. It doesn't really work.

I tried midnight suns.
Shit this runs like a dog. My computer really struggles with it.
Yes. My graphics card is ancient. But still. We aren't talking a beautiful open world game here.
Yet.... It suffers.

I encountered the same problem back when I played it, and it was fixable, although sadly I don't remember exactly what I did since it was some time ago. Cursory google says to force DX11.

Oh, and Final Fantasy Tactics gets remastered and comes to Steam in September:

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/final-fantasy-tactics-the-ivalice-chronicles-is-remastering-the-1997-cult-classic-later-this-year

QuoteThe remaster includes the original game, playable with its original graphics and interface, along with the English translation used in a previous remaster, 2007's War Of The Lions. Or, if you're looking for some quality-of-life upgrades, you can switch to an enhanced version which promises "a renewed interface, extensive additions and adjustments to the story, [and] fully voiced dialogue."

Duque de Bragança

Remake or remaster of a previous remaster updated of an earlier PS1 game b which adapted Tactics Ogre (Super Nintendo) gameplay for Final Fantasy.  :P

Also available for consoles. War of the Lions was released originally for the PSP (Sony).

Razgovory

I really liked Ogre Battle.  I think it was the first game I played with morality indicator.  It was weird, and didn't seem to work well, but it was there.  I remember there were characters named for stars like Deneb and Canopus. I also had a wizard named Warren which probably sounded better in Japanese.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Trailer for new The Expanse game (there's already a Telltale one where you play as Camina Drummer.

Done by Owlcat (Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Rogue Trader).

Mass Effect is cited as an inspiration for the gameplay. It's set during the first two or so seasons of the TV show (and leaning towards the show, not the books).

QuoteTake a look at the Announcement Trailer for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, an upcoming sci-fi action RPG developed by Owlcat Games. Players will be taken on an original story as a member of Pinkwater Security mercenary at the wrong place at the wrong time. Make strategic decisions that influence the bonds between yourself and fellow squadmates, engage in real-time strategic cover mechanics using various abilities and squad coordination, all while being immersed while traveling to iconic locations from the TV show and books. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is coming soon to PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and GoG).
