Yeah it's more like a puzzle, but as you unlock possible tile developments during your games (by achievements) the number of possible combinations grow significantly, so it is far from easy to über optimise your game. Plus there are factors like the special projects for villages: you cannot know in advance which ones of these will be started, and the bonuses these give can change the characteristics of the village.

All in all I quite enjoy it. It is not more a puzzle than simcity was as I recall, or Tropico. Well worth the 9 euros.

I'm enjoying Don't Starve, although the palate is a little bleak.  It's a nice sandbox survival game.

The Spaghetti Western fan in my appreciates this trailer:

It looks like the Old West as envisioned by Games Workshop.  All it lacks is Orks.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I've heard nothing but good about that and am looking forward to the Steam summer sale for it, in particular.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

I thought on the weekend that there's damn few sports action games on PC compared to consoles, and today, rather out of left field, Steam puts up Rugby Challenge 2 and NASCAR 2013. Talk about niche.

A love letter to Commandos 2, and especially the "White Death" level:

Ah Commandos, why oh why did you dissapear into FPS shitness. I loved those games, wonderful puzzles disguised as small scale strategy games. It was always my way to wipe out every single German.........

Incidentally how are WW2 games for those from the wrong side?....
