Um they got a first round pick so they did not really give up their one from this year.  So they are giving up two picks, 2013 and 2014.

OK, Dorsey.  It was an even-steven exchange. :rolleyesbecauseForeskinfansarefuckingmoronssometimes:

Yeah you are the guy who thinks trading three first round picks for one first round pick means you are down three first round picks :P

Indeed.  I think RGIII would work out great in Houston as well.

No doubt, but the point is you don't need to spend two first round picks + a second to trade up to get a dude who can run that offense, the one they run in HOU and WAS, quite well.   Those picks can be better used to draft dudes to go around your new QB that you got later on or traded some lower picks for.  Still using Schaub as an example, that's a 3rd round draft pick by the Falcons, then the Texans coughed up two 2nds to get him to Houston.

You could use Yates too, I suppose, for late round picks that show promise and are probably going to be able to run it pretty well.

I did not mean to imply he is the only guy who can run that offense only he seems especially well suited for it.

I'm sure he can hand the ball off or run a playaction naked boot with the best of them.   ;)

It's going to suck hairy balls for him if he can't get support around him though.   Even at Baylor the dude had Kendall Wright.

I think the fact they have a decent stable of backs and a young talented offensive line is one of the reasons they decided to do what they did.  They just need some dudes to catch the ball and I think the idea is to get a free agent.  Which traditionally the Skins blow tons of cap room on washed up never-weres.

But yeah did you see him hand off in the Alamo Bowl?  Legendary.

Giving up the #6 and and a 2nd round to move up into the #2 slot overall is a substantial difference.  Of course, if you understood the economics of the league draft, you'd know that the top 5 slots in the draft order are substantially different than the 6-10 slots.  So while they may be in the same round, they're certain not the same #1 round picks.

Of course, look who I'm talking to: Vince Young's business math study-buddy.  HOOK EM HORNS DUH

Try three first rounders, kid.

Yes.  Three minus one equals two.

I understand the cost I just feel that it is worth it.  They are just sorta rumbling along being mediocre, a game changer is needed.

I dunno man - it seems like those "game changer" trades in sports never, ever work out.  It's all about the slow, long term build.  you know - the opposite of what Dan Snyder does.

Basketball MIGHT be an exception.  But the other big sports?  I can't think of a case where a blockbuster trade has radically changed the course of a team.

It radically changed the course of the Vikings and the Saints.

Well there has been a major hole in this franchise really ever since Joe Theismann got injured.  And Snyder never does big trades (and the main one he did, getting Clinton Portis I hated at the time and I still think wasn't the right thing but but to be fair it did not set the team back that much) he signs really expensive free agents that are washed up never have beens where it is blatantly obvious it is a bad move.  This guy might be a special player and they do have some pieces in place.  A special player in that position is almost a requirement in the NFL.   Now I am a little annoyed they have not been trying to get a guy like RGIII for years, but hey it is nice they are starting to open their eyes to the fact you cannot win by signing overpriced free agents all the time.  Also it is not like they are giving up their entire drafts.  Plenty of good players to get in the second and third rounds.

However the Skins are royally fucked anyway because crazy Dan has aparantly cooked the books and they are out 36 Million of salary cap space...which is like a third of the entire thing.  Ah well I got to be intrigued and somewhat pleased with them for a few hours at least.
