It is a he. It is, in fact, the Kaiser of the universe.

Would you love him tenderly, Raz?

I would run and never look back.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Too much fanservice these days.

Agreed.
On a student's recommendation I looked up something called Highschool of the Dead. A pretty cool take on the zombie apocolypse scenario.....but so freaking much fanservice thrown in everywhere.
The manga is awesome!
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Oh god Highschool of the dead

Tim put that down, it's much too plebian for you
It can't be helped...We'll have to use 'that'

If by that you mean a normal person could enjoy it, then yes, yes it is.

It's enjoyable if the only stimulus you need is a steady stream of breasts and guns

but really, I gave you the benefit of the doubt prior to this on your tastes, despite holding up champloo as a pinnacle of animation

I wouldn't call Champloo a pinacle of animation.

It certainly is enjoyable.

I'd say Cowboy Beebop is up there though.

My favorite anime is the Rurouni Kenshin OVA "Trust & Betrayal"

I like Rurouni Kenshin better when it's called Katanagatari.

I can't touch the Cowboy Bebop one. Bebop is a masterpiece, as you say.

Dude, I started Senguko and i quit.
There was a dude on a horse, suppossed to be a Takeda, with motorcycle handles on his horse.

I love Anime, but anime kind of sucks these days.
I grant you better animation, but story wise and design they suck.

Have you ever seen Firebird (Phoenix 2772 in the States), or Lupin the 3rd- The Castle of Cagliostro, or Prince of The Sun?
How about Voltus Five?

Castle of Cagliostro is good stuff. The others are before my time. I think Cagliostro is surprising since it was Miyazaki out of his comfort zone, but in the end it was something better than Miyazaki's average offering or the old Lupin series, so it turned out great.

They are still making Lupin stuff, you know.

I really have to disagree about anime sucking- I think it's never been better.
You might like Kino's Journey.

edit: This is a list of charts that detail recent releases in anime. As long as we can produce something like Spring 2011, I can't see anime as in anything but a rosy, healthy age.

Have you watched Submarine Super 99?  ("Ocean Empire" back in Israel)

That was Epic. Or maybe i was just a kid back then.
I'll check out Kino's Journey.
Starblazer and Voltus Five will remain the greatest shit ever for me, though.

What do you think of  Kimio Yabuki's Puss in Boots?
We had two back in Israel.
Puss in Boots around the world in 80 days, and Puss in Boots goes to the West.
I loved both.

Lettow77

Both of the Puss in Boots look really charming. I'd like to see them, but this is my first time hearing of them.

Submarine 99 is on my backlog of things I plan to get to. Since you like it, i'll bump it up on the list and probably watch it this month.

Edit: hard to find a good english subtitled version of it, though..

Kino's journey is weird and depressing.

It can be weird at times, but there's way weirder out there.

Depressing? I thought the overall mood was uplifting. The world isn't beautiful, therefore it is.

Siege

You really have to watch Phoenix 2772
It was dubbed in hebrew as Firebird.
looking back with 20/20 hindsight it was used as a zionist pet project. (zionism for us sefaradim meaning "social integration" or asimilation)
The main male character had a sefaradi name while the nany/sex-bot had an ashkenazi name.

Regardless, it remains the most influential full feature anime of my childhood.
Everything from child-warrior toy training to weapons training, to the flying chairs, to freeway and car design, comes from here.
I was convinced the actual Azriel Towers were designed based on this anime.
