It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

So you gave it to your fellow Aztec?  For shame.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Sadly, this will not affect the decision on Shakespeare. We'll have to wait for Stevens to go before the poor old Bard can get his rep back.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm's name is being bandied around today on the morning news shows as a potential replacement for U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter, who reportedly has told the White House he's retiring.

Granholm, 50, a Harvard law graduate and former state attorney general and federal prosecutor, is mentioned as one of a handful of candidates who may be appointed by President Barack Obama to replace Souter, a liberal jurist and 18-year veteran of the high court.

"President Obama may want to pick somebody young, perhaps somebody from politics ... a former governor," said Alan Dershowitz, Felix Frankfurter professor of law at Harvard University, during an interview on CNN.

Dershowitz said Granholm is among many "excellent, excellent picks" for the court, but he acknowledged he may be a little biased because Michigan's governor is a former student of his.

The short list making the rounds today comes from external sources, not from the White House. The names on the list are mostly women. But Dershowitz said President Obama is not obligated to choose a woman or a minority to replace Souter, who is a white male.

Liz Boyd, spokeswoman for the governor, said: "Gov. Granholm has made it clear on numerous occasions that she intends to complete her term as governor."

Granholm, whose term expires in 2010, has denied interest in the job.

We could have gotten rid of her.   :(
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

At least as a SC justice, she can't hurt the economy much any more.

I don't think Souter leaving, and being replaced by the Obama admin will have much effect on the SC ideology? Seems to me that he's pretty liberal and will be replaced by same.

Not really.  The left just gets to lock down Souter's seat from twenty more years to forty more years.

I wonder how much Obama's going to get for the position?

On the bright side, I don't think Monica Conyers has denied interest yet. :P
