Also, Nirvana's so overrated.
Why do you say that?

I would have to agree with Tim with the clarification that something can be good, even very good and still overrated.  They were a very good band, were very influential in the late 80's early 90's and Kurt Cobain was quite talented but I don't think they deserve all of the adulation they get.

Nirvana as one of the best rock bands of all time?  Comparing Kurt Cobain to John Lennon?  As good as they were I don't think they were that good.

They were more influential than good.

Razgovory

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

At least Eddie Vedder wasn't as emo-suicidal as Cobain.

Pearl Jam > Nirvana

Hells yeah.

I don't deny Nirvana's influence on the music of their age, but the Beatles had an even bigger influence and they also sucked big time, they just happened to do something which was very new even if sucky.

Same goes for Nirvana.

The Larch

Btw, it has also recently been the 20th anniversary of Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Bloodsugarsexmagik".

Here's the Nevermind baby all grown up and recreating the album cover:

The one thing I hate Nirvana for? People think "nevermind" is a real word

Almost a pivotal and iconic as Nevermind.  Quite frankly, "white frat boy party rock" criticisms aside,  it can be argued the Peppers are as generationally definitive as Pearl Jam, with their track record of sustained work.

Indeed.  I like both of the Chili Peppers' songs.

I think you've confused me with someone else.  Metal?  Moi?

Anyway, I was being glib.  I actually do like the Chili Peppers, and I think it's fair to put their cultural impact up with Pearl Jam and Nirvana.
