I'm surprised there have been no deaths reported. Trees are down everywhere, all over the city, crushing cars and in some places houses.

We had an ice storm like that in 2010 or so.  I had no power for like three days.  Some parts of rural Kentucky had no power for weeks.

We're making my mother fly up from Florida on Thursday. She's leaving 65-70F weather to come up to 15-20F weather. She's not overly pleased.

For me the real shock when coming back from Florida is how dark it is in Detroit this time of year.  The days are noticeably shorter and a sunny day like today is extremely rare; for the most part everyone drives with their lights on in the middle of the day.

Detroit is about the same latitude as Rome.  The cloudier parts of Northern Europe must really be awful this time of year.
