Current temp is -36c at 10am.

Apparently it was cold enough to cause one of the LRT rails to crack, which led to an extra half hour being added on to my commute this morning. <_<

Oh Canada.  :(

Does your schedule not allow you to snowbird?

I gotta say winter has been pretty mild down here so far.

Over the last 24 hours we have had 32 cm of snow at our house and a blizzard warning is on again for tonight.

Getting a good work out clearing the sidewalk and driveway  :D

A foot of snow in 24 hours is a lot.  Doubly so in a city not used to it.  Hope everything is going well for you and your family CC.

We are fine thanks :) there was less in the City (about 20 cm)  we are up on the foothills of Grouse Mountain and that change in elevation makes for a lot more snow than at sea level.

You are right about the city not being used to having this much snow - lots of people without snow tires making a nuisance of themselves.  Also we don't have the equipment to clear the streets properly.  The rare time this happens we just have to grin and bear it.

4F here right now.  Thank Hod no wind.

I told the team working on Edmonton LRT this; they said they were going to check to see if they could have Edmonton moved about five hours south.   ;)

They do have to design the rail differently in Edmonton than in the other projects I've worked on due to the potential for extreme cold.  I guess it wasn't enough in this case; that surprises me knowing how much we have to over-design everything.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

I have to hand it to whomever was outside working to fix the rails in  that cold (and at night!) - they had it repaired within about 24 hours or so.
