I write copy and articles, but I don't consider that being "published", even with a byline. Writing for newspapers and magazines isn't being published. Heck, in most cases, it isn't even journalism. Published is writing a book, the way I see it. And, a few years back, a friend and I were in fact accepted by publisher Gyldendal, only to be dealt the death blow by Sales & Marketing.

On the other hand, it's rewarding seeing ads and posters where I've done the creative work and the copy.  :)

I have the low self-esteem and the aura and odour of a failure, and as such any little boost to my ego is most welcome. Since I also have the stamina of a fruit fly to follow up on my own projects, I tend to view getting published as about as likely as winning the lottery.

Uh, yeah it is. As grumbler said, being published means being paid for your writing and it showing up in print. And I'd love to hear you tell Mike Royko that he wasn't "published" until his first book came out.
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

I'd tell him, if I knew who he was.

But if you're comfortable with a low, low bar, then good for you.  :P

Rather funny coming from you. :D

And educate yourself: Mike Royko

I dunno - my father was/is a writer (sportswriter to be precise).  More newspaper pieces and columns than I could shake a stick at over 20+ years.

Either because or despite that, I've never had any particular interest in writing.

  That's actually a damned good question!  You got paid for it, which is the key indicator.  It hasn't been produced yet, so maybe not.

I started writing 3 diferent sci-fi/alt-hist novels.
Never got past page 1.

So I'm still a literary virgin.

Judas Maccabeus picked up his M16 and pointed it at the Roman's chest. "Say shalom to my little friend" he proclaimed as he dispatched the man to Sheol.
