I've played it easily over 50 times. Great game, though I highly recommend playing with the balance adjustments that have been published.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

That's them. Highly recommended. I still think there's a bit of a tilt towards the fascists in the game, but those three changes do a lot to make it fun for both sides regardless.

I got Twilight Imperium and Rise of Queensdale for Christmas.

I now have 5 legacy games to do after Gloomhaven.

You know over New Years my family and I actually didn't go anywhere.  So we played some boardgames!

We dug out some old favourites - Settles of Cataan and Ticket to Ride.  It had been so long Tracy and I had to remind ourselves about the rules, while it was the kids first time.

I think fun was mostly had by all.  My kids can sometimes be sore losers though - kind of annoying.

They're keeping up with plenty of men in their 40s-60s.  ;)

No Diplomacy with family over the holidays?
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

Shit - I used to own a proper copy of Diplomacy back in university - I wonder where it went to?

But man - if there were hard feelings over Ticket to Ride I can't imagine what would happen during the first stab in Diplomacy!

Yeah I wouldn't play with kids.  I wouldn't play with some adults either.

There was this semi-casual member of my awesome gaming group back in the old country. The group loved Republic of Rome, we played several 6-players games, absolute bliss. Except this semi-casual guy, at one time around mid-game I did some political move against him, I can't even remember what. He lost more on it than I gained but I needed the boon and he needed to be weakened, so was a perfectly legit move with zero level of arseholeness. He took such offense, though that he proceeded to go out of his way to screw with me through the rest of the game.

I still have a second edition copy of Twilight Imperium that I've never plaid.

Darth Wagtaros

Yeah, it is hard finding people wanting to play any board game, much less one like that or the legacy ones.
