Quote from: crazy canuck on March 27, 2026, 10:07:32 AMThat's also why you hear so few Canadian CEOs, who are federally regulated say anything publicly. Very few of them are bilingual.

As always, the best and brightest rarely end up in positions of power. A very simple requirement to be able to speak French at a toddler level is too much for these incompetent morons.

You are paid millions a year and you can't do this elementary school easy bullshit that any 8 year old could do? What a disgrace.

They mainly come from the US or were educated in American universities.  And federally regulated companies rarely pay their CEOs millions a year.
12 million$ per year for Rousseau, for 2023-2024.

I do not know how much costs of a private French teacher.  I'd venture a guess he could afford one, even after income tax.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

The Air Canada CEO is stepping down.  The Board has said a search for a new CEO will include the ability to communicate in both French and English amongst the criteria for the successful candidate.

Dude...just take an hour every day learning French. How hard could it be?

He is 68 and it had already been announced he would be leaving in September.  This just accelerated his departure.

Gotcha.

Not exactly.

First, his retirement was decided in and they began searching for a replacemenr during winter.

Frenc and English bilingualis is one of the criterias they're looking for, not an absolute.  They could abandon it if they find the right candidate isn't bilingual.

I am not sure what the difference is

The difference is, it's not a mandatory criteria.

You made it sound as if the next CEO would be bilingual.  It's not a given.  They'll look for it, likely decide it's not important, then move along.

Same as with corporate HQ in Montreal.  It's there by law.  If it wasn't law, they would have moved away a while ago.  Yet, it's in their annoucement.

I made it sound like the board was going to include it as part of the criteria.

I'm not sure what you're reading into that statement, but it is entirely factual.

PM says F-35 review ongoing after Norad chief says they're not critical

I am much less enthusiastic about the F-35 than I was before, but not because of that.

The US question has cooled me down, obviously.  A capricious trade ally isn't really an ally and we shouldn't depend on them for critical armament that requires regular software updates.

And then... The F-35 wasn't supposed to be sold outside of NATO and Israel.  Not for some years to come at least.  Now, everyone has F-35. Iran managed to down or damage at least one during this conflict.

And of course, drones have their use on the offense, but they're harder to transport for a country like Canada.  And our #1 problems remain Russia, and to a lesser extent maybe, China.

Russia, it's a given they will try to directly attack a NATO country in a near future, even if Ukraine isn't out.

China, it's still a wildcard.  Will they really try to invade Taiwan, or will they figure out they have much more to lose now that commerce has resumed with the rest of the world and they are taking the place of the US as economic world leaders?

Grey Fox

I don't think China will invade Taiwan anymore. They have too much to lose now that we live in a post attack on Iran world. Amphibious assault on Taiwan will see thousands of Chinese soldiers dying under the drone swarms.

Not controlling Taiwan is less damagable to China than failing to conquer it.

The F35 are planes to participate in NATO and US actions. Not really useful in defending Canada against Russia or The USA. We should buy the bare minimum.
Getting ready to make IEDs against American Occupation Forces.

"But I didn't vote for him"; they cried.

HVC

Does Taiwan currently have a drone swarm? If not doesn't that move the needle up for china to invade before they get one?
