Love that BQ 7% that will result in 43 or so MPs.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

The projection I saw:

Conservatives: 260
BQ: 42
NDP: 21
Lib: 18
Green: 2

Yet again - only one poll.

Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Quote from: Barrister on November 26, 2024, 11:08:23 AMYou can have both left and right populists.
I certainly will not deny it.

The Federal NDP has become a populist party under Singh.  Québec Solidaire is a leftwing populist party, always railing against the elite rich class, while they really target the middle and upper middle class.

Exclusive: Trump plans no exemption for oil imports under new tariff plan, sources say

Seems sucking up to Trump didn't work as expected for Smith and PP. :)

We'll see how long these sanctions will this new inflation though.

Yeah this is such a wildcard (and why I was afraid that a Trump win would potentially be disastrous).

US is a net oil exporter.  But many US refineries are configured for Canadian (and Mexican) heavier oil.  It would take years and billions of dollars to reconfigure those refineries to deal with US lighter crude.  So the effect of 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican oil imports just seem mind-boggling stupid on a short-term political perspective (which is how Trump thinks) as it would cause an immediate increase in gas prices across the US.

But we'll see - Trump likes to talk big.

Elections aren't like driving your car. A party is not going to take you exactly where you want to go. Elections are more like taking the bus. Take the one that is going to get you nearest to where you want to end up.

That's a reasonable analogy. But if transit also sucks, I'm gonna walk and draw that analogy out further.

nah. I want an MP who will represent my riding and respond to constituents, someone who takes phone calls, is visible in the community, champions local projects and acts as a  resource for citizens of the riding on a daily basis. The ground game and not the air game of HoC votes.

Apparently the same reality than I live in because this is one of the few times where Viper and I agree.

So, I guess, Quebec.

I also agree with Viper. For the first time in my silly life.

BB's loyalty is to the government he works for. If he did not support Smith on some level his position would untenable.

I served under an NDP government as well.  I'm a professional public servant, not some political appointee.

Quote from: Barrister on November 27, 2024, 10:50:01 AMUS is a net oil exporter.
It pays more to export their oil and import some Canadian oil.

It's often the case with many products.

It's the same with Canada.  Alberta exports most of its oil to the US instead of shipping it to Quebec and New Brunswick.

Quebec and Ontario are selling more to the US (and to each other) than to the rest of Canada.   Nothing has really changed since colonial times.

Alberta would love to sell its oil to Quebec and New Brunswick.  There's just no way to get it there.

There was a multi-billion-dollar proposal to reconfigure an existing NG pipeline to send crude oil to Quebec and New Brunswick.  Trudeau killed it upon coming to power.
