Like I said, ideological purity.  Someone with a position different than yours isn't just wrong, but must be shamed and removed from the political arena.
he's willing to beat innocent people just because he thinks they look like neo nazis.  Does that really surprise you?  He's a scumbag, like all the antifas.

Hey viper, normally I don't read your posts but this one caught my eye. So I just wanted to take a moment to say: fuck you you delusional piece of shit.
Fuck you too antifa scumbag :)  And fuck your antifa scumbag friends too :)

Remember where we came from on this.  The Conservatives put forward a person who has a pro-life track record to chair a committee.  By convention, the opposition gets to pick the chair of that particular committee.  The Liberals didn't just complain about the Conservative pick, they violated Parliamentary convention to reject the Conservatives pick.

If you want to complain about the Liberals violating Parliamentary convention that's fair - I'm pretty keen on maintaining our political norms. That said, coming from the party that used prorogation so creatively when they were last in power, this seems relatively small fry as far as parliamentary shenanigans are concerned.

I don't accept "but he did it first" when it comes from my kids, and I'm equally unimpressed when you use it here.

You see, this is exactly what you and BB are debating: you each think the other is adopting a "US style" polarizing position.

It's almost like we deserve each other, and you can smugly position yourself as the "reasonable person occupying the middle ground"

Hey, it isn't like there is some sort of limit on Canadian smugness. I can have some and leave some for others to enjoy, too.  :D

We are all scumbags, but it isn't polite to single any one of us out like that.  :(

True.  But I learn from from the left that violence, verbal or physical is perfectly appropriate when dealing with your political opponents.  Violence is the only thing the left seems able to understands.

  ...at least we have some accord on parts of our parenting efforts

My point is more that dubious parliamentary shenanigans are part and parcel of our parliamentary conventions, as are cries that "THIS time it's a shenanigan too far." The script flips depending on who does what, but this thing fits comfortably within a very familiar narrative.

I mean, maybe unexpectedly rejecting a committee chair nomination is particularly egregious, but I tend to think it's within the limit of normal Canadian political gamesmanship (which, ultimately, I thought about the prorogation as well though I recall being miffed at the time).

The thing about prorogation is it is only temporary.  Yes, it can buy a sitting government some time when things are heated.  But the government does sooner or later have to come back to the House.  Thinking back on it it's probably for the best that a Stefan Dion led minority, backed by the NDP and BQ, did not assume the government.  Given how quickly that threesome fell apart during the period of prorogation I can't imagine them succeeding as a government.

Yeah, like I said, in the big scheme of things it was not terrible. It still was a departure from expected norms, so it still falls under the heading of "parliamentary shenanigans", in the subcategory of "successful." I'd also put it in the "in the end, not a big deal" category, much like the current "rejecting the nominated chair" thing (though time will tell).

With the current thing, it seems pretty clear to me that both the Conservatives and the Liberals are using it for public positioning purposes. Scheer is telling the social conservative part of his constituency that he's got their interests at heart, while Trudeau is letting the "this line should not be crossed" crowd know he's got their back. I'd be surprised if rejecting nominated committee chairs becomes standing operating procedure from here on out.

I'm really offended that you would equate racism with being pro-life Jacob.

Hurts, eh?, being the bad guy.
