Tenembaums is probably Anderson's best film. Life Aquatic is also great but whimsier. Moonrise Kingdom is whimsy as well but sweeter. Mr. Fox is great weird fun. Darjeeling was kinda boring.

Awkward but gifted boy finds a powerful father figure. Or said gifted boy feels the lack of said powerful father figure. With lots of pastel and travellings.

Yup, didn't remember the title (kept coming back with Election, somehow). I liked it but not *that* much.

Well, having seen now Budapest and Tennenbaums, he definitely has a distinctive style but I would not call it "always making the same movie". He reminds me of Wachowskis, Tarantino or Terry Gilliam in that I could probably see his movie I know nothing about and guess he directed it.

I wouldn't say this is the theme of Tennenbaums at all, except in a broader sense, as it is a movie about growing up (or, being lampooned in the relationship between the doctor played by Bill Murray and his patient).
