His last, great moment would probably be his '68 comeback TV special.

Suspicious Minds FTW

My favorite Elvis song is "Burning Love".  Amazing that he could still put out something like that that late in his career after all the wealth and excesses.

A bit of trivia:  Elvis is only about 11 years older than Deborah Harry.  Which always seemed really strange to me, because Blondie didn't really become well-known until after Elvis was dead.

The History Boys - as I'll say forever when this is on TV, 'it's nothing on the stage version....'

Albert Nobbs. Stagey.

Tonitrus

From over the holidays I have about a dozen films on my DVR (mostly from TCM)...most of which I have never watched.  So with a spare moment to sit down and watch something for a bit and veg out, what do I turn on?

Khartoum...the one I have seen several times.

I have films on the dvr from a year ago.
To sleep, perchance to dream. But in that sleep of death, what dreams may come?

Sophie Scholl

I've been rather enjoying the Flying Five Finger One Armed Eight Pole Shaolin Exploding Death Touch Thursdays on El Rey Network along with their other random old school Kung Fu flicks. They're a lot of fun.
"Everything that brought you here -- all the things that made you a prisoner of past sins -- they are gone. Forever and for good. So let the past go... and live."

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

Admiral Yi

Watched a chunk of The Man Who Fell to Earth last night.

Here, I think, is a perfect example of Ide's hated 70's cinema.  This movie is terrible.  Crappy pseudo-porn sound track; indifference to lighting, blocking, framing, composition; incomprehensible script; terrible acting.  Only redeeming quality is Candy Cane buck naked.

Bizarre casting of Buck Henry as...I have no idea.  He gets thrown out of a window by aliens wearing glittery motorcycle helmets for some reason.

It reminded me a little bit that Sean Connery movie in which he has saves some tribe of futuristic women in a ponytail and jumpsuit.

I love it. Bowie's best film until Zoolander.

Yeah I don't get the hate, a good film despite or in part because of his fairly underdeveloped acting skill.

Top Secret! is indeed a classic.  Better Germans than Last Crusade, that's for sure.
