Notorious (1946).  Cary Grant, of the OSS or similar, is an emotionally abusive, psychologically manipulative scumbag.  Ingrid Bergman, daughter of a German-American traitor and slightly miscast as a human woman with sexual organs, falls in love with him for no obvious reason, other than her implied penchant for self-punishment.  Then Claude Raines, an agent for an Odessa-esque ring of fugitive Nazis, shows up.  Cary Grant in a really kinky move forces her to fuck and then marry him; at this point, the movie gets way better.  It's actually a decently effective romance about how the 1940s were rough times for both women and Nazis, and it's a cracking good thriller with implied murder and suspicions and double-crosses and poisonings and more implied murder.  I liked it a lot.

A

Bambi (1942).  Derspeiss' favorite film, this movie involves a brown unwed mother getting shot by the Man.

Claude Rains.

I just don't see it.

Well not now! Obviously. But in his day.

I was trying to play off the Invisible Man gig.

Fair enough. I haven't seen it (non-jokical).

You people are all adults, for fuck's sake.  Stop reading teenybopper sci-fi like you're on the school bus, all jacked up for AD&D Club that afternoon.  Berg's new bio on Woodrow Wilson is out.  Go read that.

Spoiler: Woodrow Wilson is a weak-tea, socialist racist motherfucker.

What?
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.
